Scene One
[It’s 10pm. Flora stands on the balcony of a
room in an abandoned building with a gun in her hand. She has a flashback of
all the bad times in her short life. Jake rushes in]
JAKE:
Flora! Please. Please put the gun down.
FLORA:
I’m tired. I can’t take it anymore.
[Tears
rolling down her eyes]
JAKE:
I’m sorry Flora. Please. I know it’s been
hard…and…
FLORA:
[With a frown on her face]
You have no idea
what it feels like to be me!
JAKE:
You are wrong Flora! I know and I can help
you through all of this.
[Moves closer to Flora]
FLORA:
I’m tired. I just wanna die. Please let me
die.
JAKE:
[Continues to move closer to Flora, holds her hand and
gets hold of the gun]
Please.
[Flora and Jake hug and kiss]
Scene Two
[The next
morning Flora wakes up at Jake’s house, in his bed and naked. Josh sits on a
chair next to the bed waiting for Flora to wake up]
JOSH:
Good Morning Flora.
[Speaks with an English
accent]
FLORA:
[Screams]
Oh my God!
JOSH:
Relax. It’s okay.
FLORA:
Who are you? Where is Jake?
JOSH:
He went out to the grocery store. I’m Josh,
his twin brother. Don’t worry, I won’t harm you.
FLORA:
You look like him. I thought I was having a
nightmare.
[Breathing heavily]
JOSH:
Oh, we are what they call identical twins.
[Laughs]
FLORA:
…and you are a little awkward.
[Speaks almost
silently]
JOSH:
Excuse me?
FLORA:
I know what identical twins are. I didn’t
know he had a twin brother.
[Scratching her head]
Where are my clothes?
[Josh picks
up a laundry basket with Flora’s well ironed clothes]
JOSH:
Right here. I had them washed. You were a
mess when you came in yesterday. Would you like a cup of coffee?
FLORA:
I’d love to get dressed first. Please.
JOSH:
Umm of course. I’ll leave you to it.
[Josh
leaves the room]
[Flora finds her phone and calls Wendy]
FLORA:
Hi Wendy. I need you to pick me up.
Scene Three
[Julia paces around the living room of her
house. Celeste is a little annoyed]
CELESTE:
Please relax Julia. I’m sure she’s fine wherever she is. This is a small town.
If something terrible had happened to her we
would know by now.
JULIA:
This
has never happened before. She’s always on time. I know my child.
CELESTE:
She is going to be a college student soon Julia. She needs her space! She’s
growing up!
JULIA:
You
are not a parent Celeste. We will talk when you become a mother.
[Celeste rolls
her eyes]
[Flora
enters the house. Julia rushes to the main entrance. Celeste follows her]
JULIA:
My
baby. Where have you been?
[Julia hugs Flora, and quickly scans her body]
[Flora notices her aunt Celeste]
FLORA:
Aunt
Celeste!
[Smiles and attempts to hug Celeste]
JULIA:
I
asked you a question young lady! Where did you sleep? I am getting tired of all
these antics Flora! I worry about you so much. Why
are you doing this to me?
FLORA:
Oh. How amazing. The world revolves around you mom. You are the queen and we should all
just bow down.
JULIA:
I
have sacrificed a lot for you. I deserve some respect.
FLORA:
Yah, except no-one forced you to bang your gardener dearest mama.
[Julia
slaps Flora on her face. Flora screams and then quickly dashes upstairs to her room]
CELESTE:
Flora honey. Please let’s not do this.
[Flora shuts her bedroom door. Celeste
sighs]
JULIA:
[Begins crying]
I’ve never hit her. I promised myself I’d never be like mom.
I’m losing it Celeste.
CELESTE:
Oh
sweetie. I’m here now.
[Hugs Julia]
It’s going to be okay.
Scene Four
[Scene
opens at the Roosevelt’s Main Residence, the Roosevelt Mansion. Kate walks into Roger’s office towards
Roger who’s at his desk working on his laptop]
KATE:
Hi
honey.
[She moves closer and begins to massage him]
ROGER:
I’m
busy.
KATE:
[She
begins kissing him on his neck]
I’m sure it can wait.
ROGER:
No!
[Pushes her away]
I’m busy.
[Kate bangs on Roger’s desk]
What is wrong with
you?
KATE:
When
was the last time we did it? Huh? You always have somewhere to go or you’re
busy. When are you ever going to make time for
me? For us?
ROGER:
[Looks
at Kate]
What do you want? A new car? Do you want me to write you a cheque? Oh, it’s the diamond necklace, right?
Do you want me to return it?
KATE:
[Laughs out of pain] Are you serious?
ROGER:
What
do you want from me Kate?
KATE:
I
want my husband. I want to love him.
ROGER:
Please call back when you are ready to tell me what you really want. I need to
get back to work.
[Rogers resumes typing on
his Laptop. Sarah enters the room]
SARAH:
Hi
mom! Hi dad!
ROGER:
[Lights
up]
Hello angel.
SARAH:
Is
everything ok?
ROGER:
Yes
of course.
[Smiling]
SARAH:
Mom?
KATE:
Umm
yes. Yes honey. Umm I’m going out I’ll be back later. Tell the cooks to prepare
something light for dinner. Okay?
[Pats Sarah
and leaves room]
SARAH:
Is
she okay?
ROGER:
[Smiles]
She’s fine. What can I do for you?
SARAH:
Oh
I’m glad you asked. We need to talk about my birthday party. Are you busy?
ROGER:
No.
I was just browsing a couple of websites. Sit. Let’s talk.
Scene Five
[Celeste
knocks on Flora’s bedroom door. Wendy stands next to her]
CELESTE:
Flora honey there’s someone here to see you!
[She looks at Wendy]
Please check
if she’s really ok.
[Walks away]
[Flora
unlocks her door. Wendy rushes into Flora’s room and closes the door]
WENDY:
He
called me!
FLORA:
Oh!
What did he say?
WENDY:
He’ll be here in a few minutes, to talk to you.
FLORA:
[Smiles]
I can’t believe this is happening to me.
WENDY:
Oh
and I made an appointment at the clinic. You need to see someone. I don’t want
to lose you Flora. Please don’t scare me
like that again.
FLORA:
Umm
have the investigations begun?
WENDY:
Yes, of course, but I think it’s pretty obvious who the mastermind is.
FLORA:
No.
Kelly is conniving but not that conniving.
WENDY:
You
are clueless. I know that girl and I am going to prove to you that she leaked
the tape.
FLORA:
My
mom still doesn’t know.
WENDY:
About the tape? Good, because she’ll drop dead if she found out.
[Jake
knocks on door and opens it]
JAKE:
Hi
girls.
WENDY:
Hey!
Nice to see you Jake. Flora, I’ll see you later.
[Leaves the room]
JAKE:
How
are you?
FLORA:
Better.
JAKE:
I’m
sorry I wasn’t there when you woke up this morning.
FLORA:
It’s
ok. Your brother was nice, a little creepy but not dangerous.
JAKE:
Yea
he is a cool kid. A little greasy, but still cool.
FLORA:
Greasy?
JAKE:
And don’t worry, we didn’t have sex. I didn’t touch you, neither did Josh.
FLORA:
[Giggles]
I know. I wasn’t drunk.
JAKE:
[Sighs]
I hate to bring this up so soon but I am…
FLORA:
You
want to know what happened.
JAKE:
Yes,
please. I’m confused. What happened at school? What made you snap?
FLORA:
You
don’t know about the tape?
JAKE:
Tape?
[Pauses then speaks almost silently]
You mean sex tape?
FLORA:
Yes, sex tape.
JAKE:
Shit!
Your sex tape? With who? When? You?
FLORA:
It’s
not mine. Relax.
JAKE:
Then
who’s is it and why does it concern you?
[Flora
looks to the floor and then faces up again. Looks deep into Jake’s eyes with tears rolling
down her eyes]
FLORA:
My
mom was in it.
[Celeste appears at
Flora’s doorstep]
CELESTE:
Oh
my God.
