This past (14th) E.W. Year was an incredible one in television.
As evidenced through our 14th E.W. Recognitions 2026 Nominations for Outstanding Fictional Series (Television), our viewing rosters were full of favorite returning and new must-watch shows.
One of those shows is The Beauty (USA, Syndicated).
Vanity is at the center of this new addition to the ‘Ryan Murphy and co.’ catalog, which I must review as immensely riveting.
Following the discovery of a virus that awkwardly heightens physical attractiveness in humans, a group of agents works to trace the origins of this marvel. Many lives are lost, large sums of money are put on the line, and numerous people stop at nothing to look younger. That’s the reality of that world, and we love it!
The stellar cast, including 14th E.W. Recognitions winners Jessica Alexander (Jordan) and Ashton Kutcher (Byron), along with seasoned performers Evan Peters (Cooper), Anthony Ramos (Antonio), and Jeremy Pope (Jeremy), remarkably brought their characters to life.
We sure hope the show returns for a second season!

Also new to television (and returning for a second season) is The ’Burbs (USA) on Peacock.
After a young couple relocates to a quaint neighborhood, a series of unusual happenings turn innocent neighborhood gossipers into murder-mystery investigators who uncover a lot more than they bargained for.
Starring Keke Palmer (Samira), Jack Whitehall (Rob), and a host of other talented and familiar actors, this remake is one that Peacock must not sleep on.
*Jack Whitehall won the 14th E.W. Recognition for Outstanding Host – Male (Televised Events) for hosting The Brit Awards 2026 (UK, Syndicated).
All’s not fair, in one of Hulu’s newest, All’s Fair (USA). This one’s about a group of accomplished female attorneys whose personal lives aren’t as glamorous as they seem. From juggling desperate clients to recovering from strenuous relationships, these five tenacious lead characters, played by Sarah Paulson (Carrington), Niecy Nash (Emerald), Glenn Close (Dina), Kim Kardashian (Allura), and Naomi Watts (Liberty), bring a fresh but punchy on-screen presence that was simply lacking.
Plus, it’s another addition to the ‘Ryan Murphy and co.’ catalog, and the show will be back for a second season.

The most talked-about streaming television show of the year has got to be Heated Rivalry (Canada, Crave)!
Television Gods spotlight North American hockey, by making two (well, two and counting) queer characters central to the plot. I was not expecting that; I am sure many hockey enthusiasts weren’t expecting that – but the angle worked!
The show trended for weeks on end; some of the main performers (Connor Storrie as Ilya, Hudson Williams as Shane, Francois Arnaud as Scott) became instant A-listers, making the show an exceptional addition to its original streaming platform, Crave (Canada).
The story is about a set of athletes who are beginning to deal with how their identities affect their relationships with others and their status as sports icons.
I think the writers did an wonderful job at character development and connecting those characters within the story. The way the story unexpectedly pivots at particular points in the show, and the overall technical prowess exhibited, sets this rare production apart.
The show will be back for a second season; we await the frenzy.

HOTTER:
Apple has decided to use the generic branding title, Apple TV (USA), for its streaming service.
Apple TV+, now simply known as Apple TV, debuted over six years ago, serving as a strategic complement to the Apple Inc. portfolio and a noteworthy competitor in the streaming wars.
From my view, the platform commissions some of the best-produced shows ever released, setting a highly and possibly unattainable standard in television production - HBO and the Emmys probably agree too.
Why did they drop the ‘+’ in Apple TV+?
From the onset, I never really found the ‘+’ in Apple TV+ to be necessary. It had somewhat of a nice ring to it, and allowed the streamer to blend in with the rest, but I guess with time, they too found the plus to be redundant.
Redundancy issues or not, we just hope this is not the beginning of another round of streamer name changes. We’ve already had enough of that, thanks to the folks at HBO.

A few of our favorite shows got the official boot, and therefore will not be returning for future seasons.
Amongst them are Emily in Paris (USA, Netflix), All The Queen’s Men (USA, BET+), and the series highlight for this section today, And Just Like That... (USA, Max).
And Just Like That… premiered in 2021 as the first television sequel to the Sex and the City franchise, focusing on the women of the film’s eventful lives post-young adulthood. Most of the original main cast members reprise their roles; a few new main characters were adequately added to the mix – making watching the series a favored pastime. The ending was well put together, possibly setting the tone for a movie sequel in a few years.
Scooping the 13th E.W. Recognition for Outstanding Series Cast – U.S. Production, Streaming, and numerous nominations throughout its run – the cast was highly revered.
The show was without a doubt a notable addition to our schedules.
*And Just Like That… won E.W. Steam’s 14th E.W. Recognition for Outstanding Fictional Series – Dramedy.
Winning the Outstanding Fictional Series Recognition for the 14th E.W. Year, and proving to be the television obsession of the year, is the first season of The Hunting Wives (USA, Netflix).
Not only was the plot mesmerizing, but the exceptional acting skills of the cast and the production quality cemented the show’s status as the best of the best this year. The writing introduced us to uncommon narratives, with plot twists and turns that had us tuning out the world around us by immersing ourselves in dramatic scenes that can only be matched by You (USA, Netflix).
Yes, I said it! Last year’s winning series, You, is becoming a contender of the past, because these new series are letting no eyeball stray. Check in next year to see if we’re still in love with The Hunting Wives – I doubt I won't.

A.I. UPDATE:
American Idol (USA) 24 wowed viewers a few months ago!
The series, returning to ABC TV USA, featured a standout cast, among them the 24th winner, Hannah Harper.
Being a Christian-inspired act, Hannah catapulted to success in a fierce battle for the title that honestly could’ve gone to any of the finalists.
New rounds of competition were introduced this year; the themed episodes were aptly produced, and the music selection kept us tuned in.
The show is preparing to return for its historic 25th season in 2027.
We can only expect no less.

Two highlights for this section are:
Beauty In Black (USA, Netflix), a newer concept from Tyler Perry. It’s a dramatic, story-driven, and buzzworthy show. The show won E.W. Steam’s 14th E.W. Recognition in Television for Outstanding Fictional Series – Drama, Streaming.
Ted (USA, Peacock), with two seasons now streaming, is strikingly raunchy, and contains mediocre humor. The show won two 14th E.W. Recognitions in Television: one for Outstanding Series – Comedy, Streaming, and another for E.W. Steam’s Outstanding Fictional Series – Comedy.

E.W. QUEER:
It’s a book adaptation, a little controversial, but definitely worth the watch!
It’s Boots (USA) on Netflix.
This coming-of-age dramedy centers around a young man’s journey to discovering his calling as a U.S. Marine despite his mother’s reservations and his questionable identity.
The stellar performances (including Miles Heizer as Cameron, Max Parker as Sullivan, Vera Farmiga as Barbara), combined with impeccable visuals, make the show the embodiment of art in my eyes.
Plus, we are so glad that Vera Farmiga was involved! She is one of the best performers we know (winner of the 2nd E.W. Recognition in Television for Outstanding Actress – Mystery/Thriller/Suspense Series as Norma in Bates Motel), who clearly was made for this.
Lead performer Max Parker must be deemed the breakout star of the year; he was exceptional. Lead performer Miles Heizer, whose character the show is based on, is truly gifted. Hopefully he’ll appear in more productions in the future.
The show is sadly not returning for a second season, but hey, many shows don’t anyway.

Now streaming on Netflix is the wildly entertaining drama, The Polygamist (South Africa).
Revolving around a group of women whose lives are rocked when they discover that the man they’ve entrusted with their futures is a womanizer in disguise, this show engulfs viewers with a never-before-explored plotline.
The performances by the cast ensemble were simply awe-inspiring, so much so that E.W. recognized them as E.W. Global’s Outstanding Fictional Series Cast (Television) for the 14th E.W. Year, 2026.
Since the show debuted on a high, we sincerely hope that it returns for more memorable seasons.

A Week Away: The Series (USA, Angel) is a timeless Christian story about a set of teens who find purpose and renewed faith at a summer camp program.
Kudos to Angel (USA) for continuing to grow their Christian content slate, clearly emblazoning themselves in the faith, and inspiring many through biblical stories, music, and portrayals.
Another one for the books is Wonder Project’s The Old Stories: Moses (USA). A wonderful reimagining of the journey Moses (Ben Kingsley) undertook to fulfill God’s promise for him and his people, convincingly produced and a wonder to watch.
Surely, this is the start of something good!

Suburgatory (USA) premiered in 2011 on ABC TV USA and lasted for three seasons on the network.
With a cast including Jane Levy (Tessa), Cheryl Hines (Dallas), and 14th E.W. Recognition Winner Alan Tudyk (Noah), the show puts a novel spin on suburban comedies and highlights Jane Levy’s star quality for future roles.
Though the show boasts a single E.W. Recognition (2nd E.W. Recognition for Outstanding Music – Fictional Comedy Series), it surely serves as a blueprint for authentic network comedies and, above all, is #TotallyBingeworthy.

The Now You See Me (USA) movies always get it right!
The latest release of the franchise, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t (USA, Syndicated), flawlessly transitions the story arc, allowing for the rejuvenation of the series tailored for this decade. It was great timing, and the numbers agree!
A fourth movie is in the works.
Other movies to watch:
- Michael (USA, Canada, UK, Syndicated): The ever-fascinating life of one of pop music’s most influential persons is once again showcased immaculately. Could it be the Jaafar Jackson (Michael in the movie) effect?
- Scary Movie 6 (USA, Syndicated): The 14th E.W. Recognitions’ Favorite Movie (Television, Other) showed the new kids how it’s done. It’s classic comedy trying to match Gen Z hype, though.
- Scream 7 (USA, Canada, Syndicated): Another one for us die-hard fans of the series! Not so good, but hopefully the next one will be KILLER!
- The Devil Wears Prada 2 (USA, Syndicated): A bit underwhelming for my liking, but the performances were fine.
- Office Romance (USA, Syndicated): We had missed JLo (Jackie) in Romcoms. A great watch.
- The Wrong Paris (USA, Netflix): Never thought Miranda Cosgrove (Dawn) could pull it off. Unexpected but fantastic plot.
- You, Me & Tuscany (USA, Syndicated): What a wonderful picture. The performances are noteworthy, the setting is superb, and the story is captivating.

- Khaki Fever (South Africa, Syndicated): A rare comedy about a group of rangers who get too cosy with their guests.
- Marty Supreme (USA, Finland, Syndicated): Timothee Chalamet (Marty) is incredible in this!
- The Housemaid (USA, Syndicated): A thriller of note. 14th E.W. Recognition winner for Favorite Movie – Global Plus.
- I Can Only Imagine 2 (USA, Syndicated): 14th E.W. Recognition winner for Favorite Movie – Christian.
14th E.W. RECOGNITIONS 2026
The 14th Annual Enzer’s World, E.W. Independent Online Recognitions Period 2026, in association with The Juik Store, ended with the reveal of deserving Winners in various categories, including:
Under the TELEVISION subject:
- Animal Control (USA, Fox USA) and Universal Basic Guys (USA, Fox USA) topped by bagging three each for FICTIONAL Television.
- Songs & Stories (USA, NBC USA) and The Boyfriend (Japan, Netflix) topped with two wins each for REALITY Television.
- E.W. QUEER's top winners were host Jonathan Bennett and The Traitors Canada (Canada, CTV), with two each.
- With two wins each, E.W. GLOBAL PLUS’ top winners were the fictional series, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (Germany, UK, BBC IPlayer) and reality series, The Hills are Alive: A Year at Kylemore Abbey (Ireland, RTÉ One).
- A Week Away: The Series (USA, Angel) topped with two wins in the CHRISTIAN sub-subject.
- Under WEB CHANNELS & PAGES, YouTube Channel, Sambucha (USA) led with two WINS.
- In the OTHER sub-subject, I Know What You Did Last Summer (USA, Australia, Canada, Syndicated) and Netflix (USA) topped with two each.
Overall, Netflix won the most with an impressive eight recognitions in TELEVISION.
Some of the other top winners were:
- Under WEBSITES, APPS, BOOKS (WAB): Anne Wilson topped with two wins.
- With five wins, Demi Lovato is this year’s best in MUSIC.
- Gabriella Labucci and Dean Norris both topped with two each under the subject, CELEBRITIES (CELEBS);
- A total of four wins made Johannesburg-Pretoria O.R. Tambo International (Kempton Park, South Africa) the leader in TRAVEL this year.
Going down as another successful season, the 14th E.W. Recognitions presented continued growth in reach of the flagship event that cannot be ignored anymore.

The countdown to the 15th E.W. Day has officially begun!
To celebrate such a notable milestone, E.W. will be officially launching new themed playlists, featuring favorite top fictional television shows and movies that have won E.W.
