Scene One
[Scene opens in Roger’s Roose Hotel Apartment. Roger awakens, tied to a chair, with tape covering his mouth. His head is mildly aching. He attempts to speak]
Mya:
Oh, he’s awake.
[walks up to him and rips the tape off his mouth]
Roger:
Aaah!
[screams out of pain]
You bitch!
Mya:
Watch your mouth Mister!
Roger:
What the hell is going on? What do you want?
Mya:
You gotta be kidding me? Is this dude serious?
[Looks to Kwame]
[Kwame and Mya both take a seat on the couch, facing Roger]
Kwame:
Now listen here Roger. And listen well.
Roger:
You don’t get to talk to me like that, okay? I’m fucking Roger Roosevelt! Goddamit.
Mya:
Game over, Roger Roosevelt!
Kwame:
From now on you’ll do as I say.
Roger:
Damnit! You’re lucky these walls are soundproof!
Mya:
Hey! Shut the fuck up and listen!
[sighs]
Kwame:
You are to transfer over fifty percent shareholding of all profitable assets in your name, to me. Right here, right now.
Roger:
You sicko! Why the hell would I do that? I don’t owe you shit! Plus my lawyers would freak out.
Kwame:
Oh that is so true. That’s why I have you here, tied up in your exquisite suite, with all the paperwork ready for you to sign, Roger Roosevelt.
Roger:
Or what? Huh? What you gonna do if I don’t sign your papers.
Kwame:
[looks directly into Roger’s eyes]
You don’t wanna know.
Roger:
Is that supposed to intimidate me.
[scoffs]
Get me outta here!
Mya:
He is a stubborn one, hey?
[speaks whilst chewing gum]
Kwame:
Do you wanna go grab some lunch, Mya?
[Mya nods]
Let’s go.
[Mya walks out of the apartment]
Kwame:
[Whispers into Roger’s ear before heading out of the apartment]
Serves you right for stealing my winning lottery ticket, buddy.
[walks out of the suite, behind Mya]
Roger:
You can’t just leave me here! Where are you going?
[Roger is left alone in the suite, wrestling to untie himself]
[Scene closes with the front door banging behind Kwame and Mya as they head out to...grab some lunch]
Scene Two
[Kwame and Mya return to Roger’s Roose Hotel Apartment hours later. Roger is still tied to his chair. They both walk past Roger, and take a seat on a couch in the living area]
Roger:
I am hungry.
Mya:
So?
Roger:
And I need to use the bathroom.
Mya:
Well, from the looks of it, you don’t really need a bathroom anymore.
[pats Kwame]
Dude wet his pants.
Kwame:
Why hasn’t anyone come looking for you?
Roger:
I don’t know. Everyone is probably occupied, grieving.
Mya:
Who died?
Roger:
[breathes lightly]
My daughter. My only daughter. My sweet Sarah. On her birthday.
[Roger, who had managed to untie himself unexpectedly stands, and then rushes to the front door. Kwame and Mya are alarmed but attempt to catch Roger before he escapes. Roger unexpectedly trips and falls a few inches before the front doorstep. Both Kwame and Mya stop and stare at Roger’s body on the ground, both are out of breath]
Mya:
We are probably the luckiest people on the planet right now.
Kwame:
I just hope he’s not dead.
Scene Three
[Scene opens with Mya groaning. Roger who is semi-conscious, is lying on a bed, on top of Mya]
Kwame:
Done?
Mya:
Done.
[pushes Roger away before Kwame grabs him and ties him to a chair]
Roger:
What did you guys give me?
[still speaks in semi-conscious state]
Kwame:
It’ll wear off soon and in time for you to sign over fifty percent of your holdings to me. So just stay put.
Mya:
I’ll go take a quick shower.
[rushes to the bathroom]
Roger:
[with tears rolling down his eyes]
Look man, I’m sorry. Kwame, please. I needed to get out too. I just didn’t how else to go about it. Our friendship meant everything to me. I was going to invest in our landscaping business, but you never returned my calls.
Kwame:
That was my money, Roger! Everything you have is rightfully mine! You don’t get to tell me how I should feel, how I should act. You know what, forget it.
Roger:
Whatever you want man. I’ll give it you.
Kwame:
You know what I came here for already!
Roger:
Okay. Okay. I’ll sign over fifty percent of my holdings to you.
[Kwame throws the paperwork at Roger before untying him to allow for signing of paperwork]
Mya:
[returns as soon as Roger signs the papers, with a towel wrapped around her body and with dripping wet hair]
Oh and one more thing.
Roger:
What?
Mya:
You are to divorce your wife, immediately.
Roger:
Why would I do that?
[pauses]
No.
[shaking his head]
I am not going to divorce or leave my wife.
Mya:
I am not asking you, I’m commanding you, dearest husband-to-be.
Roger:
Don’t call me that!
Kwame:
I think we are done here.
[Police officers barge in]
Police Officer:
Freeze! Hands on your head, where I can see them!
Roger:
Gentlemen it’s alright. They are both innocent. They found me in here all tied up just before you barged in.
Police Officer:
Are you sure you’re alright Sir?
Roger:
Yes, please. They are not the culprits.
Mya: You heard him.
[addressing the police officers]
[The police officers quickly insert their guns into their side pockets before Josh rushes in]
Josh:
Dad! Are you alright?
[rushes towards Roger]
Roger:
I’m fine! How did you find me?
Josh:
Well, you mentioned that you were headed here, before you left the mansion.
[notices Mya]
Why is she...wrapped in a towel?
Roger:
She’s staying here, in one of the rooms, of the hotel.
[stuttering]
She heard me calling for help and was about to untie me before you all got here.
Josh:
But the walls are soundproof?
Roger:
The front door was slightly open.
Josh:
I see.
Roger:
Oh, right. Officers I am not going to be pressing any charges. My security team will be in touch. You can leave now.
Police Officer:
Well, since we’re here already, please allow us take a look around, and bring a few of your staff in for questioni...
Roger:
I said my security team will be in touch. Now please leave. This little crowd is making me feel flustered.
Mya:
You heard him.
Police Officer:
You have a good day Mr. Roosevelt.
[officers exit the apartment]
Josh:
Dad, are you sure you’re okay?
[places hand on Roger’s shoulder]
Roger:
I said I’m fine!
[pulls away]
Get hold of my lawyers and P.R. team. I have an announcement to make.
[Scene ends with Josh leaving the apartment. Kwame follows behind him]
