#TheRoundUp By Enzer - No. 3

Did you miss out on anything interesting this week? Don’t worry, Enzer has got you covered. Here’s #TheRoundUp

MUSIC SPOT
The American Music Awards (AMAs) versus The MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs): The AMAs win all day, every day. I enjoyed every minute of the show. The performances by some of the biggest artists of the year were off the hook and kept me wanting more. However, Pitbull as host was not a good idea. The AMA stage was busy and would’ve been fine without Pitbull in the mix. I hope they don’t have a host/hostess at the next AMAs unless the stage is not as busy as it was on Sunday night.

Iggy Azalea shined on the night. I’m glad she walked away with awards. She has had an exceptional year with top charting hits like Fancy featuring Charlie XCX and Black Widow featuring Rita Ora and hopefully she’ll continue to rule the rap world. She already rules our Hip-Hop/Rap world as she is RECOGNIZED by the EW Board as Enzer’s Worlds’ Favorite Female Hip-Hop/Rap Act of 2013/14.

On the other side, I’m still mad at Snoop Dogg for what he did to Iggy Azalea a few weeks back and I still can’t believe that Snoop Dogg walked free. When Donald Sterling was “exposed” as a racist, he got humiliated and yet Snoop Dogg gets to only apologize? Really? If that was a publicity stunt, WELL DONE.

Australasia in on fire! Bands like Sheppard and 5 Seconds of Summer are dominating the charts and can be heard on almost every radio station. Another band worth mentioning is the All-American Band Maroon 5. Their latest album V (Five) is so refreshing, so cool, so worth it.

HOT ON TV
If you missed out on Satisfaction on USA Network this year then you are living under a rock on planet mars. Where are you? This fictional series is MUST SEE TV. It’s simply a classy portrayal of a troubled marriage that will force you (LOL) to question your spouse or special friend. Another series to look out for is The Millers on CBS. Sean Hayes has a lead role in the sitcom this season and (you guessed it!) he is portraying a gay man, another gay man. I don’t get his character’s purpose or how he fits in with The Miller Family but perhaps that will be clearer later on.

Which television show is the best at celebrity coverage? It’s too early to tell but what I can say for sure is that all of them have a home on TV. I like E! News’s style: it’s fun, it’s glossy and sometimes quirky (good quirky). The hosts speak & dress well and the set defines elegance. Entertainment Tonight (ET) is more on the serious side with a more conservative format and the advantage of having Nancy O’Dell on their team. Nancy is the Queen of Celeb Coverage and I really hope she keeps doing her thing until the end of day. I also like the ET set and the new guy that began co-hosting with Nancy. Thumbs up! I wonder what would happen if she left ET? Another lifestyle magazine series to lookout for is Entertainment Week on Sky News UK. Who knew a News channel could be fun? LOL.

The EYE CANDY on the sets of Enzer’s favourite Lifestyle Magazine Series couldn’t get sweeter. I’m talking about Jesse Giddings, Catt Sadler, Ali Fedotowsky and Terrence J all on E! News as well as the King of Sexy himself, Mario Lopez on Extra to name a few. Please keep them on-the-air. Oh, I also like how the E! News personalities are so comfortable around each other, like really comfortable, like most likely to be banging each other kinda comfortable. Yes guys, we see you…

IN THE NEWS
Bill Cosby is still trending. A number of women have spoken out against Cosby accusing him of rape including supermodel Janice Dickinson. I have a question for her - why now? She is a very influential and successful woman who I never expected to keep quiet about such. Her keeping quiet about this will give Cosby’s camp more reasons to ridicule all these allegations and will send the wrong message to young girls. However, I am also beginning to believe that Bill Cosby did in fact abuse all those women. I’ve read a lot about women that keep quiet about abuse so there’s nothing new. If he’s not going to say anything anytime soon and if he keeps hiding then he’s guilty.

There’s ongoing protest around the U.S. against the Grand Jury’s decision to not indict the officer that killed teenager Mike Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. There are two sides to this story: either Officer Wilson shot at Mike Brown to protect himself after he felt endangered during the altercation or the officer shot at Mike Brown without mercy because the teen was African-American. I’m confused but if I take all the race related issues that America suffers from into account I’d conclude that Americans need to talk, serious talk.

Still on protests, Hong Kongers are continuing with their Pro-Democracy protests. One thing I liked about these protests in Hong Kong was the mellow attitude (well, at least in the beginning). Many, if not all, revolutionary protests in history were violent. If a population can make it happen without making noise then I’m there. I was also surprised by how unhappy the people of Hong Kong, especially the young people, are with their government. Hong Kong is one of those places that might not be the best but was or is definitely better. I am all for equality, freedom and universal suffrage so I really hope they get what they want regardless of what China or The West thinks. Fingers crossed.

#TheRoundUp by Enzer - No. 2

We are not cattle. You do, we talk. LOL. Here's #TheRoundUp

MUSIC SPOT
Taylor Swift finally released a new music video for another hit song from her latest album. She gave me a lot of reasons to stop worrying about Shake It Off being the only hit on her latest album. A lot of people are saying that they want Taylor to remain a country artist, singing about boys and all but I think she made the right decision by switching to pop 100%. I really do and I don't think it's because she wants to been seen as a grown up or anything like that, I just think it was a smart business decision. Well done Taylor and crew.

The 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) went down last week (November 9th). Two words: The Worst. The opening performance by Ariana Grande was, well, so so. Ariana sounds great on radio, not LIVE. A lot of the top artists of the year were absent which was really a bummer for Glasgow. The excitement was not really there. I don't know if it's because the people of Glasgow were hoping that they would be a city in an independent Scotland by now (SIDE NOTE: Glasgow voted YES to Scottish Independence) or they just didn't want the awards to be there in the first place, puzzles me. On a lighter note, a few performances stood out for me: Enrique Iglesias's performance of Bailando, Keisza’s performance of Hideaway and of course Alicia Key's performance of We Are Here. I love that song! It carries a very important message and is well written. Alicia is definitely on my One to Watch list for this year.

Nicki Minaj blew it! Twice in one week (LOL). Early last week she was the host of the EMAs and, like the live event itself was the equivalent of a skunk's waste. I understand why the producers of the show wanted her to host but sadly I don't think it really worked out. She's funny, she pushes the boundaries, she's secure, she's a great rapper but she's just not a good EMA hostess. Nicki also released a very offensive Nazi inspired music video last week. Well at least she gave a great performance at the EMAs so it wasn't all bad. Right?

If you are not listening to Gwen Stefani's new music this fall/winter then you need a prescription from your doctor because she is back with a bang. Don’t you dare write her off! Another act to look out for is Australasian rock band The Griswolds: they are the epitome of awesomeness.

HOT ON TV
About A Boy on NBC has really stepped it up this season except for Benjamin Stockham's character (Marcus Bowa). I'm not sure if the producers wanted the character to take a chill pill this season (he was all over the place in season one) or if Benjamin Stockham is having bad days, every day. I'm also excited to see how Marcus will transition to teenage hood considering how fast Benjamin is growing up.

Late Night TV has never been better. Though I miss Chelsea and wish she had never left E! I think Fallon, Kimmel, O'Brien, Meyers, Stewart, Letterman, Colbert, Oliver and the rest of the colony have got us all covered (LOL). It's sad that they don't air on weekends because THE PEOPLE AT SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE (SNL) ARE NOT DOING THEIR JOB PROPERLY! Season 40 of SNL on NBC kicked off on a low and it seems like it's going to stay that way for the rest of the fall/winter season. Most of the jokes are pathetic, some are borderline offensive (don't get me wrong, they are just so close to taking it TOO FAR) and none of the hosts have impressed me so far. If the bosses fired someone they need to get them back A.S.A.P (with a raise, of course).

IN THE NEWS
Oscar Pistorius was allegedly raped in prison! I don't have all the facts but this could be true for obvious reasons. On the other hand it might just be his way of trying to get the "system" to be more lenient on him (we all know he has a clever legal team backing him). Still on rape, Bill Cosby (same as Stephen Collins) is being accused of assaulting multiple women. I am going to be on the fence as usual because I believe that when you are successful in the public eye you are a target. Times are tough and some people want to make a quick buck. On the other hand, Bill and Stephen might have abused all those women knowing very well that they could get away with it. Rape is a serious problem in our day and the perpetrators are usually the last people on our minds.

President Obama recently visited China. I never thought the day would come. It did but I also feel like it was a waste of time. I know that there's a lot of business between China and the U.S but besides that these two powers are polar opposites. Thanks to the United Nations we don't have to study World War 3. I'm still trying to figure out if both countries' intentions were genuine (I hear President Putin was also in the mix) or if President Obama was just trying to ruffle the Republican feathers. Only God knows.

New Zealand wants to change its flag. Good for them. At the end of the day it's up to them to decide whether they want to move on in that sense or keep the Union Jack. Oh, but that's not the reason why they want to change it. Some Zealanders want to change the flag because it looks like the Australian flag. SIDENOTE: If you are not clued up on world flags please do not be late to the party by simply visiting wikipedia.com (LOL). Well, Canadians have the same status as New Zealand in the Commonwealth, they don't have the Union Jack on their flag and they seem to have succeeded in creating an identity that's independent of the United Kingdom. So Dear Zealanders: It's Possible.

Moving on to what Britain considers a "problem", there's been rumors that Africa's longest serving leader, President Mugabe, was almost assassinated. Guess who's been accused of plotting his assassination? His deputy, Joyce Mujuru. Guess whose adding fire to the rumors? His wife, Grace Mugabe. I have only one thing to say: Hollywood please make a series out of all this drama because it sounds like one of your creations (LOL).

#TheRoundUp By Enzer - No. 1

Hello Guys! Thank you for visiting the blog and I hope you are having a good week. So much has been happening giving me enough to blog about today. So without further ado here’s #TheRoundUp:

HOT ON TV
It hit me this week that Glee on FOX is ending next year. I am a Gleek but I am also on the fence. On one side I feel like the world is going to end because Glee was a messiah to millions of people around the world. The storylines made us happy and gave us hope, but on the other hand the show was beginning to get lost.

Cory’s death really affected Ryan Murphy’s camp, the show had a not so amazing fourth season and the new characters were not really marrying well with the rest of the cast. So I guess us Gleeks are left with no option but to move on. It’s not going to be easy but I’m sure Ryan Murphy and his team made a smart decision. I’m excited to watch his new series which he describes as a horror/musical. Kind of like a Glee meets American Horror Story.

American Horror Story on FX disappointed me. I enjoyed Coven (Season 3) so much that I expected Freak Show (Season 4) to be bigger than Miley’s twerking at the 2013 VMAs. However, the characters are FREAKING awesome! The creators are geniuses and deserve all the awards in the world.

Other fictional series worth mentioning are Stalker on CBS and A to Z on NBC. These shows are on fire! #ABreathOfFreshAir. Gotham on FOX is a mess if you ask me. I enjoyed the first episode and then BOOM they had me confused. The only good thing there is Jada Pinkett-Smith’s character. The Flash on The CW is sadly rowing in the same boat. I am simply failing to focus on the storylines. The cast is good looking though.

The Queen Latifah Show is slowly becoming a nightmare. There are even times when Queen Latifah will crack a joke and no one in the studio audience laughs. If that’s not the worst that could happen to a talk show host then a Zebra has no stripes. I loved her first season but at the same time I felt like she was trying too hard to be the next Ellen DeGeneres. I hope the show improves because it undoubtedly carries something special.

Ellen is doing well. Her show is addictive and makes my day. I am just a little worried about the nudity and naughty stuff that goes on there. The producers or whoever is in charge should either tone it down or move the show to late night. Wendy has a big mouth! I love her hosting style because she makes me interested in the person she’s talking about (no other host does it well) but sometimes she takes it too far ( e.g . the mean stuff she says about Kris Jenner). If she’s saying all those things to entertain then well done but if she’s being real then that might be a problem.

Steve Harvey is awesome but it seems like the show is only for women. He focuses a lot on women’s issues such that I’m beginning to think he’s GAY. LOL. The Talk on CBS is still the king of the roundtable. The View, The Real and others (no offence) can learn a thing or two from the ladies of The Talk. First lesson: Be Friends! Or at least pretend to like each other. What happened to faking it ‘til you make it?

A few shows have already been cancelled. My favorite: Manhattan Love Story on ABC. All I can say is GONE TOO SOON. Witches of East End on Lifetime (one of Enzer’s top shows) also got cancelled this week. Someone has to do something about all these cancellations! SERIOUSLY, this is no joke. Some of these shows are really good and deserve to be on-the-air for at least three years! The executive producers shouldn’t just give up; they should make a plan, look for another channel or something. I wish they all could learn from The Game on BET. Those guys made a plan and it worked out.

Moving on, The Voice on NBC is getting better. Hallelujah! The new coaches have added so much value and they’ve rejuvenated the show. I’m not so sure about the contestants but then again The Voice is not really known for producing people like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. Yes, I like The Voice but it seems like it’s more about the coaches and their new releases, just saying. I’m sad that Gwen Stefani is not returning for the next season. I was hoping Pharrell would skip a season and make way for Usher who I heard isn’t having a good year.

MUSIC SPOT
Can we please move on from Taylor Swift’s #ShakeItOff. It’s a good song, I loved it when it was fresh but it’s getting old. I also hope that #ShakeItOff will not be the only hit on Taylor’s 1989 album. Please, God.

There’s so much good music circulating this fall/winter. Nick Jonas is flying solo and I think he will make it. I love his new songs. They are so funky and I can tell he took his time. George Ezra is also freaking amazing. He has this unique voice that I have never heard before and his music is deep.

Jessie J is  (of course) worth mentioning. J’adore Jessie J. Besides the fact that the songs on her new album are too racy, I like the sound. They are definitely club bangers and she will obviously be successful this year because (in case you haven’t heard) SEX SALES.

IN THE NEWS
The Canadian Government has decided to stop issuing visas to citizens from some parts of the world. I think it’s a dumb idea. Most of the people that are travelling to The Americas from the Ebola affected countries are American/Canadian health care workers. Some of them even refuse to be quarantined. So if they really want to stop the spread of Ebola to North America they need to wake up and stop acting as if they issue out visas like they are Halloween candy because we all know they don’t. How is it even possible that other parts of Africa are Ebola free and yet North America is battling with the disease? There must be some kind of magnet in North America that pulls in all that West Africa has to offer.

In other news the Democrats lost the U.S. mid-term elections. Experts are saying that these results will make Obama’s last two years in office an unbearable hell. There really isn’t anything new.  What America needs is a new party. The Democrats and Republicans have failed. The Americans are not happy about anything: healthcare is a mess, the economy is not up to standard and THE TERORRIST ATTACKS just won’t stop. What does a population do? Sponsor a new party. Done.

Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, is threatening to kick the UK out of the EU if they change their immigration laws. Before I comment on anything else, I didn’t even know that Germany had that much power in the EU. The reason why I’m excited about this is because I never thought that Germany had the guts to tell the UK where to kiss. LOL. For me it’s not news it’s entertainment.

Okay, so back to UK Immigration. What’s interesting about this whole issue is that the UK is getting fed up of EU to UK migration. It’s weird because most people including myself would expect Non-EU to UK migration to be the problem. I don’t blame the British though because one of the reasons why you open up borders or integrate with neighboring countries is so that you progress as a bloc: economically, militarily, etc. If “smaller” countries or states in the bloc begin to switch to dependent mode then there’s no point in working together because you are no longer equal. Right? On the other hand important sectors like the NHS might be in jeopardy if they decide to cut down on immigration. I guess this is similar to what happened during the colonial era when the British had to let go of their colonies in order to save their economy. Good Luck David Cameron.
