Scene One
Julia:
[Sighs]
We have no choice but to leave Carrensdale as soon as possible.
Celeste:
[Stands]
Are you insane? There has to be another solution. I can’t let you keep running from this lunatic.
[Pauses for a few seconds]
Besides, Flora will refuse to leave. She’ll demand to know the truth. You know that girl.
Julia:
Can we hire someone to find out who it is?
Celeste:
I’ll see what I can do.
Julia:
What do you mean by that?
Celeste:
I mean, I might know one or two people that could help out. Just trust me.
Julia:
I’ve trusted you before Celeste. I’m not going down that road again.
Scene Two
[The Next Morning at The Roosevelt Mansion]
[Sarah & Kelly are chatting in Sarah’s room]
Sarah:
He said all these nice things about her. I’m beginning to think that he might really be into her.
Kelly:
But your dad would never approve, right? Right?
Sarah:
Yea. I mean, you are the perfect girl for Jake. I’m sure it’s a phase – the exploratory phase. And it’s not like they are getting married or anything like that.
Kelly:
I know what you’re trying to do. Thanks but I think I should probably be more present.
Sarah:
Well, the party I’m throwing tomorrow is gonna be lit.
Kelly:
Oh yeah. I think I am now more excited than you are.
Sarah:
You should be, because you are going to seal the deal.
Kelly:
Umm what do you mean by seal the deal?
Sarah:
[Smiles]
[Hugs Kelly excitedly]
Scene Three
[Scene opens at Donald's Coffee Shop, Flora enters the shop and heads to the counter where Wendy is working]
Wendy:
Hey Flora!
Flora:
Hi Wendy.
Wendy:
How was it?
Flora:
Well, it went well. She said I just need constant monitoring.
Wendy:
Oh great. Thank God. How is your mom, by the way?
Flora:
She’s fine.
[Grabs her apron, wears it]
Wendy:
Flora, have you talked to her?
Flora:
Can we not talk about that right now. We could talk about how amazing of a psychiatrist my Aunt Celeste is. I don’t know whether I feel that way because she is a relative and not some random doc at the local clinic - by the way.
Wendy:
Oooooooor how we just scored an invite to Sarah Roosevelt’s party.
Flora:
[Grabs her phone]
What? This must be some kind of joke. That girl loathes me.
Wendy:
Don’t be silly, it’ll be fun. And I’m sure Jake will be expecting you.
Flora:
I think I’m gonna pass. I really need to catch up on a lot of things…
Wendy:
Including that talk with your mom?
Flora:
Maybe. I also don’t wanna draw much attention to myself at the moment.
[Places her hand on Wendy’s shoulder]
You’ll be fine without me, right?
Wendy:
I hope.
[They both continue organizing the coffee shop counter]
Scene Four
[Camry Residence. Celeste and Julia are in the kitchen]
Celeste:
Well I'm glad you are going to try to take it easy.
Julia:
It’s still the last time I am entrusting you with this Celeste. Your plan better do good this time.
Celeste:
Oh, look at the time.
[Grabs her car keys]
Wish me luck.
Julia:
You’re gonna kill it.
Flora:
[Enters the room, a few minutes later]
Was that Aunt Celeste.
Julia:
Yea, she has an important meeting today. That’s where she’s headed.
Flora:
Great, coz I need to talk you mom.
Julia:
Oh honey.
[She takes a seat]
Sit, sit.
[Flora takes a seat. She then places her hands on Flora’s]
I am so sorry for everything.
Flora:
Mom, you don’t need to apologize. I had no right to lash out at you like that. You are the only thing that I…
[Julia interjects]
Julia:
I think it’s time we talked about your father.
Scene Five
[Celeste arrives at Roger’s Office at Roosevelt Industries HQ]
Roger:
Celeste Camry!
[Directs Celeste to a seat]
Celeste:
How are you Roger?
Roger:
I’m better now that you are here.
Celeste:
Oh stop it.
Roger:
I am surprised that not a single European man thought of putting a ring on it.
Celeste:
I am surprised you are familiar with the millennial’s lingo.
Roger:
Yes, Beyonce is on my workout playlist if that’s what you are asking.
[Smiles]
Celeste:
[Laughs]
Touche.
Roger:
So umm,you said you needed to talk to me about a proposal?
Celeste:
Yes actually.
[Hands Roger a file]
Roger:
Let’s see.
Scene Six
[Both Julia and Flora are seated on the kitchen seats]
Flora:
Mom, I don’t hate you. He kinda sounds like a loony guy to me but that’s his problem. And I’ll always be here for you whenever you need me Mom.
Julia:
I know sweetheart. You, you are my number one.
[Smiles at Flora]
Flora:
The church can go to hell. They are a bunch of hypocrites.
Julia:
I think they were just disappointed in me. You know as the Minister’s wife, I had to keep up a moral standard.
Flora:
Well, I never liked Christians anyway, especially your ex-congregants.
Julia:
[Laughs]
People aren’t perfect.
Flora:
Before you go all holier than thou on me, I just wanna say that, now that I am seeing a good doctor a.k.a. Aunt Celeste, I think I’ll be less of a dramatic personality around here.
Julia:
Oh please. You are perfect just the way you are. I am glad though that she is back in town. She’s the smarter one, so I’m hopeful she’ll find a way of making all of this go away.
Flora:
If she can keep people sane, then she must be superwoman.
[Julia takes a sip of her tea]
Scene Seven
Celeste:
I am glad you like it.
Roger:
What’s not to like. I am huge supporter of the private health care system, and I’ve got the Mayor on speed dial, so expect a call sooner than later my friend. We are going to establish a health center like no other.
Celeste:
You are the best Roger.
Kate:
[Walks into Roger’s office]
Yes he is.
[Slowly places her handbag on top of Roger's desk]
Roger:
Katherine, what are you doing here?
Kate:
Just brought you something to munch. Hi I’m Kate.
[Avoids shaking hands with Celeste]
Roger:
Uhm, this is my wife Katherine.
[Celeste tries to further cover her cleavage]
Katherine, this is Celeste, a soon to be business partner.
Kate:
I’ve never seen you around town before Celeste.
Roger:
She just got back from Europe. She was working there as a psychiatrist. Which is what she is Katherine. A psychiatrist.
Kate:
[Rolls her eyes]
Oh. Nice to meet you, Celeste.
Celeste:
Great meeting you too, Kate.
Kate:
We are throwing our daughter a birthday party tomorrow night at our mansion and I’d love for you to come, Celeste.
Celeste:
Oh, that would be great, Kate.
Roger:
The mayor and many other key people in town will be there so please do join us.
Celeste:
I’ll be there.
[Speaks directly at Roger, then Kate]
I should get going. See you around.
[Exits the office]
Roger:
[Sighs]
Please don’t do that again.
Kate:
Oh, was she about to jump your bones?
[Sits on the office couch]
Roger:
Very funny. We were having a very important meeting Katherine. The one I told you about before I left home this morning.
[Emphases his point whilst taking a seat in his chair]
Kate:
Dammit. I was this close to catching you cheating on me, why did I have to ruin it by not walking in a few minutes later.
Roger:
Don't be such a drama queen. And good luck with those theories of yours Katherine; because I’m not cheating on you, period.
[Smirks at Kate]
Kate:
And it should never happen.
[Speaks whilst inspecting her nails; Roger gazes at Kate]
