Scene One
[Opens at Julia’s house. Julia and Celeste are having a meal when Julia’s phone rings]
Julia:
Hello. Yes this is her speaking.
[Stands and turns to look at Celeste. Celeste stands]
Oh. You know where my daughter is? Got it, no police.
[Celeste raises her eyebrows in dismay]
Ok. I’ll be right there.
[Hangs up]
Celeste:
What is it?
Julia:
We need to go to the Roose Hotel. Apparently that’s where Flora is.
Celeste:
What? Who was that?
Julia:
I don’t know.
Celeste:
Okay, let me grab my coat.
[Dashes out of the room. Scene ends with Julia looking puzzled]
Scene Two
[Opens with Kwame in a hotel room, on the phone]
Kwame:
Okay. Thank you.
[Hangs up]
They’ll be here any moment from now.
[Turns to face Flora, and smiles at her]
Flora:
She, mom is gonna be riled up when she finds me here.
Kwame:
Well, you know your mom better than I do.
Flora:
[Giggles]
Thank you for not telling her I was here all along. I just couldn’t let this moment between us pass. You know, there’s things I wanted to tell you dad, to share with you, without any disruptions. Just you and me.
Kwame:
It’s just you and me baby girl. Love you.
Flora:
I love you too dad.
Kwame:
I promise to always be there for you. And I am gonna take care of you, okay. If I don’t do that, then I would have failed as your father. Okay?
[Kwame and Flora hug]
Scene Three
[Opens at the Roosevelt Mansion]
Jake:
Dude, I’ve been trying to get through to her since last night.
Zack:
A lot has just happened. She’s probably as freaked out as we are. Give her some time.
Jake:
You’re probably right.
[A staffer appears at the doorway]
Staffer:
Mister Jake, you have a visitor.
Jake:
Thank you.
Kelly:
Hi Jake. Hi...Zack.
Jake:
Kelly, hi. What are you doing here?
Kelly:
I’m here to help plan for the funeral, with your mom. I also wanted to check on you.
Jake:
Yea, I’m holding up. Are you okay?
Kelly:
Yea I am trying. I just lost my best friend so...
Jake:
It’s a sad time.
Kelly:
Yea. I should find your mom. She probably needs me to prepare the invitations or something.
Jake:
Sure, see you around.
[Kelly exits]
Zack:
Dude, she totally has the hots for you.
Jake:
Yea, we’ll see how that ends for her.
Zack:
Wanna play?
[Hands Jake a joystick]
Jake:
Sure.
Scene Four
[Opens with Julia and Celeste hurriedly entering a hotel room]
Julia:
Flora!
[Speeds to hug her. Celeste follows behind]
Celeste:
What happened to you Flora?
Julia:
[Inspects Flora’s body]
Are you okay?
[Kwame walks in]
Kwame:
She’s fine.
Julia:
[Turns to face Kwame]
You bastard! What did you do to her? I’m calling the police right now.
Flora:
Mom it’s okay. He didn’t hurt me.
Julia:
No Flora!
Flora:
It’s okay. Really, I am fine. I was fine the whole time I was here.
Julia:
I swear to God, if you ever come anywhere near my daughter ever again…
[Pointing at Kwame]
Kwame:
She’s my daughter too Julia!
Flora:
Everyone stop! Just stop! Okay. I said I am fine.
Celeste:
You sure?
Flora:
Yes Aunt Celeste! I am very fine. Dad here..
[Julia scoffs. Flora pauses for a second and then continues] Dad and I just spent some time together. There really isn’t anything to worry about.
Julia:
If I had known your father was keeping you in here all this time…
Flora:
I asked him not to tell anyone that I was here.
Julia:
Why would you do that Flora? Why would you do that to me?
Celeste:
How did you even get here? How did you find him? How did he find you?
Flora:
That’s besides the point, okay. I’m here, alive and well, aren’t I?
Julia:
I found a trash bag in your room with Sarah Roosevelt’s body parts in it!
Flora:
What are you talking about?
Celeste:
Sarah’s body was found hanging from a chandelier at the Roosevelt Mansion during her birthday party. When we got back home, your mom went upstairs to check on you and found that you weren’t there in your room. She also found a trash bag with body parts in it. Police have confirmed that it is Sarah Roosevelt’s decapitated hands and legs.
[Flora flinches mildly]
Julia:
And I am convinced that your father...
Kwame:
I do not know what you’re talking about Julia.
Julia:
Don’t cut me off. You do this decapitation thing all the time. Tell her Kwame! Tell her!
Kwame:
I don’t know what your mother’s talking about Flora.
Julia:
[scoffs]
Sure you don’t.
Kwame:
I followed Flora home after she was done at work. When I got to your house and made myself known to her, she asked if she could spend some more time with me. I then decided to bring her here. I told her to let you know that she’s with me, but she refused to tell you that I was with her. She said she wanted to be with me without any distractions. We just talked, okay.
Julia:
And what about the trash bag I found in her room?
Flora:
I don’t know where that came from?
Kwame:
Neither do I?
Julia:
Is this your way of calling me crazy?
Celeste:
Clearly not. Because I saw the bag and its contents, and so did the police who’ve just confirmed that those were Sarah’s hands and legs.
[A Hotel Staffer rushes into the room, panting]
Hotel Staffer:
You need to vacate the building immediately. Please.
[Rushes out].
Kwame:
Dammit!
Julia:
What? What’s going on? Kwame!
Kwame:
Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!
[Flora, Celeste, Kwame and Julia all exit the hotel room]
[Scene switches to Roger in an area with a view of the Roose Hotel]
Roger:
Three, two, one.
[A bomb goes off]
Gotcha.
[Another bomb goes off]
Scene Five
[Opens with Jake and Zack watching the news. Kelly dashes in]
Kelly:
Have you guys heard about...
[Kate walks into the room]
Kate:
Is that the local news?
Jake:
Oh yea. Umm, a bomb went off. Well multiple bombs went off at the hotel.
Kate:
The hotel? Multiple bombs? Like a terrorist attack?
Jake:
Well, I’m not sure. Could be.
Kate:
Where’s your father? Wasn’t he at the hotel for a meeting today?
Jake:
I think he’s still there. Josh followed him there a few hours ago. They're probably together.
Kate:
Oh no.
[Begins to cry]
Call him. Find out where he is.
Jake:
They’re not answering their phones.
[Kate almost collapses]
Jake:
Mom.
[Scene closes with Kate crying on Jake’s shoulder]
