#TheRoundUp By Enzer - No. 77

HOT ON TV

The latest sequel of The Best Man (USA) franchise, a Peacock (USA) original, follows the film series’ beloved characters as drama unfolds, all beginning at another wedding reception. And, perfectly packaged as a streaming television series consisting of eight episodes.

Starring Taye Diggs (Harper), Nia Long (Jordan), Regina Hall (Candy), Terrence Howard (Quentin), Sanaa Lathan (Robin), Morris Chestnut (Lance).

Created by Malcolm D. Lee.

Titled, The Best Man: The Final Chapters.

Hopefully, it will not take a decade before another sequel is released.

New on the daytime television talk show circuit is, Jennifer Hudson, in The Jennifer Hudson Show (USA, Syndicated).

It’s a pompous and ever-joyous program featuring an eclectic mix of guests and segments.

Also new (well, sorta new) is Sherri Shepherd going at it solo in Sherri (USA, Syndicated).

Incorporating her comical side into the show’s segments, and with a spirited studio audience, Sherri is a colorful addition to any program line-up.

If you enjoy sensible conversations and interviews with Hollywood’s trendiest people, then The Drew Barrymore Show (USA, Syndicated) is made for you too.

Hosted by Drew Barrymore, a darling A-Lister, no day would be complete without a tune-in into this one.

*The Kelly Clarkson Show (USA, Syndicated) is the 10th Enzer's World (E.W.) Recognitions’ Outstanding Reality TV Series – Talk/Chat.

CBS’ adaption of Lingo (USA, Syndicated) is a fun word game that one can play along to. Word games on TV (hosted by RuPaul) have never been more fun, to watch.

*The 10th E.W. Recognitions’ Outstanding Reality TV Series – Game is CBSBig Brother (USA, Syndicated).

HOTTER:

I’m not sure if it’s a feeling of exasperation, or is it that I’m just overwhelmed by the drastic increase in the number of television shows (and movies) available to watch at one given time.

I’m not complaining (b.t.w), nope, it’s just that I’ve noticed this drastic increase (too).

According to TV critics, more than 200 new Hollywood series were released by television channels, networks, stations, and platforms in 2022.

And on our side, a record 200+ fictional series are set to be SHORT LISTED for a top E.W. Recognition in television,  after the (current) 11th E.W. Year has ended.

However, according to the same TV critics, a slight drop in new releases from Hollywood is expected from 2023 to 2024.

The drastic increase in 2022 was felt, though.

The Crown (UK, Netflix) has a fifth season, that is unmissable TV!

Set in the 90s, when the royal household was mired in public scandals, the season is perhaps the most controversial of all seasons of the show. I repeat, unmissable TV!

How I Met Your Father (USA, Hulu) is back for a second season.

Also premiering soon is You (USA, Netflix) Season 4.

Oh! Oh! Oh! And we cannot wait for Rihanna's NFL Super Bowl (USA, Syndicated) Halftime Show Performance!

*The NFL Super Bowl is the 10th E.W. Recognition' Outstanding Televised Event.

A.I. UPDATE:

The 21st season of American Idol (A.I.) will be premiering soon!

I got a good feeling about this one.

But we’re still skipping the initial city-to-city auditions episodes, sorry.

E.W. GLOBAL:

Riches (UK) on Amazon Prime Video (USA) is #BUZZING!

The story is about the events that unfold after the death of some rich dude. This rich dude ‘surprisingly’ leaves most (a majority) of his wealth in the hands of his first set of kids, from his first marriage. His second wife is displeased by this (obvs) so she rallies her kids and a few of her late hubby’s loyal employees and major shareholders to challenge his will.

Oh, it does not end there,...but I won’t spoil that for you, now.

#TotallyBUZZING

Also, #TotallyBUZZING is the comedy, Tali’s Joburg Diary (South Africa, Showmax) from the Tali’s Diary series. This one follows Tali's beyond hilarious move from Cape Town to Johannesburg in search of a resolution to her financial problems. Tali is played by Julia Anastasopoulos.

Also, #TotallyBUZZING (lol) is How to Ruin Christmas (South Africa, Netflix).

This comedy, now in its third season, is about two families striving to find common ground despite all the curveballs thrown at them.

If you’re into uncommon drama, then find the new soap-opera Redemption (South Africa, BET Africa).

The show is about the leader of a Christian congregation and the drama his family and church members are all engulfed in.

Also uncommon is Gqeberha: The Empire (South Africa, Mzansi Magic), a show about a wealthy man, his many wives, his many children, and their disrupted lives.

And, if you’re into historical dramas, Marie-Antoinette (France, Canal Plus) serves up some of that. The life of France’s Marie-Antoinette is portrayed enticingly in a fictional series.

THROWBACK:

A Showtime (USA) Original, The Tudors (USA, Ireland, Canada, UK) is a show based on one of England’s most notable royal houses. The series chronicles the life events of Henry VIII ( played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers), a man known for his military prowess, his denunciation of the Pope and Catholicism (later appointing himself Supreme Head of the Church of England), and his many wives.

It’s an underrated one, and, possibly one of the greatest of all time.

DAILY INSPIRATION

Success is a continuum. At one end is what we call failure; at the opposite end are success and satisfaction. Success begins with failure and ends with accomplishment. Seen this way, failure is an integral, anticipated part of the success process. Like happiness, success has always been one of the fundamental goals of humanity. Many have written of success, in lots of different ways; but the rules have never changed, and never will.

“Success depends on a plus condition of mind and body, on the power of work, on courage.”

SPEAK OUT

#QUOTES:

“True Godliness is in a sense the same as true wisdom. The one who is truly wise and who uses the forces and powers with which he is endowed, to him the great universe always opens her treasure house.” - RALPH WALDO TRINE

“A life without purpose is a languid, drifting thing. Every day, we ought to review our purpose, saying to ourselves: this day, let me make a sound beginning, for what we have hitherto done is naught!” - THOMAS A. KEMPIS

“At various times of life, we find ourselves with a handful of blocks of different sizes and shapes out of which we can build some aspect of life. And it behooves us to build it as beautifully as we can...” - ISAAC ASIMOV

“Every experience is a learning experience. Every time we try something – win or lose – we learn, we grow, and we attain more confidence and competence for the next time.” - PAT WILLIAMS

“Success is a path that you can easily lose your way... Because we forget that we need a ‘lantern of reality’  and a ‘compass of flexibility’...which both are a must.” - DOUG FIREBAUGH

“Remember that if the opportunities for great deeds should never come, the opportunities for good deeds are renewed day by day. The thing for us to long for is the goodness, not the glory.” - F.W. FABER

“One has to notice the small things in life. Because it is the detail that reveals the great moments.” - R.B. WEIN

“It is not for us to forecast the future, but to shape it.” - ANTOINE DE SAINT EXUPERY

“Don’t let minor setbacks cloud your vision of the future.” - NEIL ESKELIN

“Nine-tenths of wisdom is being wise in time.” - THEODORE ROOSEVELT

FLICK PICK

Movies to watch (soon) include:

- After Ever Happy (USA, Syndicated). In the fourth release of the After Series, Tessa and Hardin's ever-tumultuous relationship is further explored. And, ends with an unexpected breakup. Tessa is played by Josephine Langford. Hardin is portrayed by Hero Fiennes Tiffin

- Bros (USA, Syndicated). Don’t let the news of the low ticket sales in U.S. theaters stop you from giving it a watch. It’s hella funny, I tell you.

- Hello (USA, BET Plus). Starring Eva Marcille (Alicia), this one will give you one hell of a thrill ride.

- Look Both Ways (USA, Netflix). Lili Reinhart (Natalie) plays a college student whose life after college diverges into two parallel realities.

- Nanny (USA, Syndicated). A Senegalese immigrant finds a job as a help in New York, a job that presents less to be desired. Stars Anna Diop (Aisha), who's deserving of high mention.

- Pearl (USA, Canada, Syndicated). The prequel to the movie ‘X’ is well-written. I gotta give that to them.

- Shotgun Wedding (USA, Syndicated). JLo (Darcy) and Josh Duhamel (Tom) are hilarious in this.

- The Holiday Sitter (USA, Canada, Hallmark Channel). Hallmark’s first #Queer rom-com could not have been better.

- The People We Hate at the Wedding (USA, Amazon Prime Video). A more modern take on the drama that could unfold at weddings happening in comedic films. 5 stars, as they say.

- They/Them (USA, Syndicated). A thriller of note. A take on the slasher film sub-genre, happening at a conversion therapy camp. Hoo.
