#TheRoundUp By Enzer - No. 81
SPEAK OUT
#CELEBS:
Eva Marcille is Enzer’s World, E.W.’s Outstanding Actress for the 12th E.W. Year!
Popularly known for starring as part of The Real Housewives (USA) franchise, Eva became a certified actress in our circles when she scored the role of Marilyn/Madam on the hit BET+ (USA) series, All The Queen’s Men (USA).
Her portrayal of this artful, foxy, devious, yet elegant character set the bar high regarding how villains must be played on television.
And yes, the past E.W. Year was her shining moment.
After three consecutive nominations for the same role and in the same category, Eva was named the Top Actress of the Year during the just-ended 12th E.W. Recognitions Period 2024.
I am glad about that outcome. The competition was stiff, but you have to agree, that Eva mesmerized audiences like never before. She was in overdrive this past year as if her life depended on it.
Do we want to see more of Eva Marcille as Marilyn/Madam on All The Queen’s Men airing exclusively on BET+?
Yes. Most definitely, yes!
I have no idea how the story will progress, but they better not hit us with a cancellation.
Judging by what people like Eva just delivered for viewers, and the stiff competition (Outstanding Portrayal Nominees) - Tyler Perry and co., had better not hit us with a cancellation.
Speaking of stiff competition, the 12th E.W. Recognitions’ Outstanding Portrayal – Actress (Fictional Television Series) Nominees were the best group of nominees in the history of the E.W. Recognitions.
The ladies of the small screen brought it! #NoSlackingForDays
The nominees included:
- Alexandra Breckenridge (Melinda on Netflix’s Virgin River): Her years of training on and off the screen are evident whenever she plays a character.
- Alyla Brown (Alice on Amazon Prime Video’s The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart): She’s a younger actress, but her delivery is jaw-dropping.
- Brie Larson (Elizabeth on Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry): Fantastic performance. I never imagined she could pull it off.
- Carrie Preston (Elsbeth on CBS’ Elsbeth): An impressive performance. Star Quality.
- Cierra Ramirez (Mariana on Freeform’s Good Trouble): Great performance. She was shining throughout the year.
- Emma Roberts (Anna on FX’s American Horror Story): Impeccable, as always. Emma is just a natural. A runner-up of some sort.
- Eva Marcille (Marilyn, Madam on BET+’s All The Queen’s Men): The best of the year. Mesmerizing. Believable. Authentic. Now, that’s how you play the role of a villain.
- Gina Rodriguez (Nell on ABC USA’s Not Dead Yet): She always lights up your day. She has that effect.
- Jessica Gunning (Martha on Netflix’s Baby Reindeer): One of the best I’ve seen. She should be getting multiple mentions in Hollywood circles for this.
- Julianne Moore (Mary on Sky Atlantic’s Mary & George): She’s experienced, which worked to her advantage.
- Kate del Castillo (Ramona on Fox’s The Cleaning Lady): This year was for the ladies playing villainous characters. She’s one of them.
- Kate Winslet (Kanzlerin on The Regime): She never ceases to amaze us. What is she doing next, huh?
- Michelle Buteau (Mavis on Netflix’s Survival of the Thickest): She's the biggest surprise of the year. She made that plump lady cool again.
- Nicola Coughlan (Penelope on Netflix’s Bridgerton): She’s been #BUZZING! And she’s an exceptional actress.
- Rose Byrne (Sheila on Apple TV+’s Physical): Outstanding, indeed. It was as if she was the star of a major studio picture, that is in the running for multiple Academy Awards including the Best Actress gong, which she'd be tipped to win. Yeah, that kind of vibe.
- Sinclair Daniel (Nella on Hulu’s The Other Black Girl): Can we call her the breakout star of the year?
- Sindi Dlathu (Lindiwe on 1 Magic’s The River): Seasoned actress who bowed out with a bang!
- Sofia Vergara (Griselda on Netflix’s Griselda): Another actress who captivated in a villainous role. Possibly the performance of the century!
Hopefully, I’ve justified why the competition was stiff. #Totally

#QUOTES:
“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, and confusion into clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”- MELODY BEATTIE
“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant. If we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.”- CHARLOTTE BRONTE
“Most people are mirrors, reflecting the moods and emotions of the times. Few are windows bringing light to bear on the dark corners where troubles fester.” - SYDNEY J. HARRIS
“Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has many. Not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.”- CHARLES DICKENS
“The great end of art is to strike the imagination with the power of a soul that refuses to admit defeat even in the midst of a collapsing world.”- FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE
“The difficulties and struggles of today, are but the price we must pay for the accomplishments and victories of tomorrow.”- WILLIAM J. H. BOETCKER
“Hope is the companion of power and mother of success. For who so hopes strongly has within him the gift of miracles.”- SAMUEL SMILES
“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than one’s fear.”- AMBROSE REDMOON
“Like a shadow are our days upon the earth. Not like the shadow of a wall and not like the shadow of a tree. But like the shadow of a bird in flight.”- BEREISHIS RABBAH
“Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is a daring adventure or nothing at all.” - HELEN KELLER
HOT ON TV
The twelfth season of American Horror Story (USA, FX) is undoubtedly one of the best seasons of the show.
Honestly, based on the promotional content, I thought a mediocre storyline, with the usually impressive technical aspects, was on offer. You know, a round of the American Horror Story we have come to accept.
Surprisingly, the team took us on a ride of our lives!
Featuring a noteworthy cast (including Emma Roberts as Anna), a captivating plot-line, and impeccable production features, this last season of American Horror Story is up there (if not better than) Coven (third season), 1984 (ninth season), and NYC (eleventh season).
Kudos to the writing, production, and casting teams for bringing their A-Game!
The show has become an underrated staple.
*American Horror Story won the following 12th E.W. Recognitions in Television: Outstanding Series (Fictional); Outstanding Cast – U.S. Production (Fictional); Outstanding Series – Horror (Fictional).
HOTTER:
National Amusements, the owners of Paramount Global have reportedly attracted a buyer/business partner.
The soon-to-be co-owners, Skydance Media are set to jointly run the company that owns famous brands such as Paramount Pictures, CBS, BET, VH1, MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, CMT, Showtime, and Paramount+.
It’s always great when new life is channeled into a business or brand. However, I don’t expect much change, which could (overall) affect the company’s financial performance.
Why would anyone want to sell off a company like Paramount in the first place?
Hopefully, their products become better, similar to what we’re beginning to see with Nexstar-controlled network, The CW (USA).
BET (USA) and its affiliates, forming part of Paramount’s portfolio, were reportedly being eyed by some prominent investors like Tyler Perry. They argued that the network should be owned and controlled by African Americans.
Hmmm.
*CBS (USA) is the 12th E.W. Recognitions’ Best Channel/Network/Station/Platform – Reality (Television).
*CBS is also the 12th E.W. Recognitions’ Best Channel/Network/Station/Platform – Events (Television).
The 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards (USA) are airing soon on ABC USA (USA)!
Here are my predictions:
- OUTSTANDING COMEDY SERIES: I’m picking The Bear (USA, FX on Hulu), not because I don’t appreciate the other shows, but because I think this show has the highest chance of winning. Yeah, I still see you (other shows).
- OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES: That’s a tough one. But The Crown (USA, UK, Netflix) might win this year.
- OUTSTANDING LIMITED OR ANTHOLOGY SERIES: I liked Lessons in Chemistry (USA, Apple TV+), but Baby Reindeer (UK, Netflix) is a notable competition.
- OUTSTANDING REALITY COMPETITION PROGRAM: They usually pick RuPaul’s Drag Race (USA, MTV), but it would be great if The Traitors (USA, UK, Peacock) or The Voice (USA, NBC) won this year.
- OUTSTANDING TALK SERIES: The Late Show (USA, CBS) is my pick. Stephen Colbert was great this year.
- OUTSTANDING SCRIPTED VARIETY SERIES: I can’t make up my mind.
That’s it from me.
As for the other categories (mainly the acting categories), I’m just going to sit back, relax, and enjoy the show like everyone else.
Other Shows to Watch:
- Big Brother (USA, CBS)

A.I. UPDATE:
American Idol (USA, ABC USA) Season 4 Winner and Prominent Alum, Carrie Underwood is the newest addition to Idol’s judging panel, replacing pop icon Katy Perry.
I don’t know how I missed Carrie Underwood in the predictions of the last edition of #TheRoundUp By Enzer. Now, I’m no longer sure if I thought of mentioning her or not, I won’t lie.
Nonetheless, I adore Carrie Underwood and believe she will make a great addition to the panel. I think she balances out the trio. She seems less extroverted, which should work in her favor, somehow (even though some people may think otherwise).
She brings in a wealth of experience: as a performing artist, a celebrity, a mother, and a former Idol contestant. I think the upcoming season will be one to remember, for sure.
She’s the only former Idol contestant and winner to surpass Kelly Clarkson (season one winner/original idol) in some areas, and she is most probably Clarkson’s only competition when down to sales.
So, she’s a force to reckon with.
#VivaCarrieUnderwood #Stanning4CarrieUnderwood

#EnzerLovesIdol
E.W. STEAM:
All The Queen’s Men (USA, BET+) is E.W. Steam’s Outstanding Fictional Series for the 12th E.W. Year.
The third season of the series stands out for its hypnotically grappling storylines, scenes, and incredibly talented cast.
Well…, it’s always been that good.
Its risqué nature makes it a guilty pleasure for some. But, honestly, I don’t mind getting three more seasons of the show.
*Love Island Games (USA, Peacock) is E.W. Steam’s Outstanding Reality Series for the 12th E.W Year.
*Max (USA) is E.W. Steam’s Outstanding Channel/Network/Station/Platform for the 12th E.W. Year.
#TotallySteam
E.W. QUEER:
Buzzworthy series Fellow Travelers (USA, Paramount+ with Showtime) won E.W Queer’s Outstanding Fictional Series Recognition for the 12th E.W. Year not because of a limited pool of options, but because this mini-series, is exceptionally produced.
Few LGBTI+-centric shows are groundbreaking – this one’s one of them.
*Netflix (USA) is E.W. Queer’s Best Channel/Network/Station/Platform for the 12th E.W. Year.
#TotallyQueer
E.W. GLOBAL:
B’dazzled by Bonang (South Africa, S3) is a glossy reality television series that follows media-personality, Bonang Matheba. The show is a glimpse into her glamorous yet humbling day-to-day activities and adventures, infused with fashion, style, travel, and heartwarming segments that one can never get enough of.

E.W. CHRISTIAN:
The 2024 edition of the K-Love Fan Awards (USA, TBN) was more of a hit than a miss.
I enjoyed watching much of the live show (airing from Nashville, Tennessee) which included comedic, musical, tribute, and presentation of trophy segments.
What a glorious telecast it was.
Testament: The Story of Moses (USA, Netflix) is one series you should never skip. This well-produced series tells the story of the biblical Moses in a way that is simply sublime.
#SignMeUpForTheWatchParty
*Testament: The Story of Moses won two 12th E.W. Recognitions in Television: E.W.’s Outstanding Series – Informative, Educational (Reality); E.W. Christian’s Outstanding Series.

IN THE NEWS
It’s official!
U.S. Vice President Kamala Devi Harris could potentially become the next President of the United States.
Forget about her being the First Woman, the First African-American Woman, the First Woman of Southeast Asian Descent, First…, well that’s all that's been mentioned these days.
I am more concerned about how she’ll steer the ship, who and what she is influenced by, and ultimately, what America (and the world) will look like during her tenure.
On one hand, I want to believe that Kamala would be a great president. I think she’s decisive enough to ensure that whatever she’s campaigning for will come to fruition. She’s great for representation and diplomacy, though her background as a prosecutor might not entirely work in her favor.
On the other hand, I think she’s more of a Joe Biden carbon copy.
The woman is U.S. President Joe Biden’s deputy, hello?
I think she was placed in that position to continue with Biden’s ‘legacy’, in case things go south for the president. I don’t expect her to usher in much change. Domestically, there might be improvements, but regarding foreign policy...mark my words.
Former U.S. President and current White House hopeful, Donald Trump picked a relatively younger guy as his running mate! That was a good political move that might win him a lot of votes; even though some of his party members had (instead) proposed for him to select a running mate from a U.S. minority group. Hmm.
Has there ever been this much suspense surrounding a U.S. election before?
I have a feeling: that if NATO admits or fully backs Ukraine in this Russo-Ukrainian conflict, a World War will break out. Do you feel the same?
I got chills when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed for NATO to fully back Ukraine during one of NATO’s meetups. I got serious chills.
The South African Primary Election yielded an unexpected result. I am happy that democracy prevailed. I think the democratic system in South Africa is maturing uniquely unlike that of other democratically governed states. However, I sincerely hope this outcome results in a more progressive, inclusive, and sensitive society. Yeah, what a way to beat a dictatorial setup.
The Mpox outbreak is as frightening as the Coronavirus outbreak of 2020. However, there have been claims that the outbreak isn’t receiving much attention because (much like Ebola) the virus is mostly prevalent in Central Africa. Thoughts on that?
Will we ever see an end to the conflict between pro-Palestine and pro-Israel forces?
In with U.K. Prime Minister Sir Keir Rodney Starmer. Out with anti-immigration poster kid and former U.K. Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.
Yeah, Rishi lost it when he fronted the Rwanda migration plan for the U.K. Conservatives, who got a huge battering from the U.K. electorate on election day.
Oh, and was there a good reason why July 4th, 2024 was chosen as the U.K.’s 2024 Election Day? #IWonder
*Aljazeera English (Qatar) and CNN (USA) both won the 12th E.W. Recognition in Television for Best Channel/Network/Station/Platform – News (Other).
FLICK PICK
Oppenheimer (USA, UK, Syndicated) is perhaps the most talked about movie of the year.
I mean, it is a great movie.
Profiling an inventor is always a win for Hollywood studios. Therefore, I wasn’t surprised when the film grossed ABOUT A BILLION U.S. DOLLARS at the box office worldwide, won multiple Oscars, and tagged along with the success of the Barbie (USA, Syndicated) film to create the Barbenheimer phenomenon.
Yes, I agree.
*Oppenheimer is the 12th E.W. Recognitions’ Favorite Movie – Global, Co-Production.
Another fan favorite, Red, White & Royal Blue (USA, Syndicated) was popular on E.W.’s X timeline during the 12th E.W. Recognitions Period. I am also glad that a sequel is in the works. #Totally
*Red, White & Royal Blue is the 12th E.W. Recognitions’ Favorite Movie – Queer.
