#TheRoundUp By Enzer - No. 74

HOT ON TV

Young Royals (Sweden, Netflix) is a new Swedish production about Prince Wilhelm, a ‘mischievous’ teenage royal (portrayed by Edvin Ryding) that is sent to an elite boarding school as a corrective and protective measure.

As you might’ve already assumed, drama ensues upon his arrival at this elite boarding school, including him falling for a male student from a different background, a substance abuse incident, the death of his only beloved sibling, and several scenes where hearts are broken (thanks to his royal highness).

Overall, the first/debut season of the series deserves a nod (multiple even) because of how the producers of the show gently presented an overdone plot-line,…

(Hello? They gave new life to the royal sub-theme!)

...something that those producing American shows of similar themes are kind of failing to do. (*hides*)

The portrayals by the crop of Swedish actors are impressive (no doubt). The series is almost entirely in Swedish, so the subtitling comes in as a huge aid.

A second season has been ordered.

Bravo to the team!

#TotallyHOT

The second season of HBO Max’s Love Life (USA, Syndicated) is a treat. The season follows the love life of a middle-aged male named Marcus (played by William Jackson Harper), a roller-coaster ride of a love life onscreen if you ask me.

Comparing the second season to the first is a waste of time, because the second season is, awesomely dramatic! I believe that the season has created notable moments in the world of streaming television, and deserves more than just a mention in Enzer’s World (E.W.)’s #TheRoundUp by Enzer.

Trust me, the third installment is something I wouldn’t miss for the world.

#NotToBeSkipped #Totally

The Saved By The Bell (USA) reboot on Peacock was an unexpected attention grabber. I gotta mention that the cinematography is one of the best aspects of the show, not forgetting the humor, the portrayals, and the cherry on top, Mario Lopez as A.C.

#BeOnTheLookOut for that hot piece of ageless Latino meat.

Honestly, I did not think that I would watch most of the second season, but I did. Therefore, it’s safe to say that the Peacock reboot won’t be a terrible choice on one of those lazy weekends. *winks*

Another reboot/adaptation which I am #totally gripped by is the BET Plus original, First Wives Club (USA).

Thanks to Tyler Perry (and co.) this story, about three friends, this time portrayed by Jill Scott (Hazel), Ryan Michelle Bathe (Ari), and Michelle Buteau (Bree) whose patience is tested through rocky marriages/relationships is brought back to life on our small screens.

The humor and the set designs are the best things about this comedy.

(Weirdly, infidelity/marital problems is the theme for this comedy.)

Plus, we get to watch Jill Scott’s ageless beauty showcased throughout.

Yes, I cannot wait for the third season. #Totally

And Just Like That…

The stars of the Sex and the City (USA) franchise are back on Television, thanks to the Gods of Streaming TV.

HBO Max’s And Just Like That... (USA, Syndicated) is the perfect dramedy release of this E.W. Year

The story-line, the portrayals, the season's running time and each episode's length, the media buzz - everything about this show is just astonishing.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Sex and the City back then, but I mean, the writers of this sequel caught my attention, mesmerized, and got me up to speed in a jiffy.

I hope it stays on because it surely is a perfect fit for a streaming service.

The Voice of Germany (Germany, ProSieben) is one show I’d recommend you catch up on.

The latest season is filled with riveting (E.W. TV) moments, all thanks to the show's incredible cast and crew.

Nothing beats NBC’s version of The Voice (USA, Syndicated), most of the time, I agree, but you gotta admit that the German version is a unique offering.

Sadly, I am not that much excited about the next season of the show. #OnTheFence

HOTTER:

Emily in Paris
(USA, Netflix) returned for a second season serving as a continuation of where it all ended in season one, by concluding the love triangle saga that Emily (played by Lily Collins) got entangled in before the close of the first season.

Just when I was about to lose hope in the series, the final minutes of the first episode of season two brought back that excitement I had back when the show debuted in 2020.

I think this whole ‘lets release lackluster first episodes’ thing is becoming a Netflix thing because if my memory serves me well, You (USA, Netflix) did the same thing to me (and I’m sure to many more other viewers out there too).

Yep, ‘we’ gotta ask the big guy at Netflix about that, when ‘we’ interview him next.

Otherwise, the release of the second season was a drama-filled and pleasantly musical event.

I am also glad that the series will be back for a third season.

WEB TV:

A couple of made-for-the-web television shows have lately been
#BUZZING including the recently held MOBO Awards 2021 (UK, Youtube), the Miss Universe 2021 Preliminaries (USA, Youtube), the Miss Grand International 2021 Preliminaries (Thailand, Syndicated), and music fests such as Outside Lands 2021 (USA, Twitch) and Creamfields 2021 (USA, Youtube).

Another mention goes out to web dramedy, Money.Men.Marriage (Nigeria, Youtube). The series revolves around a group of friends that pretty much achieved all of their life goals, except one: figuring out men and then eventually settling down (of course).

A.I. UPDATE:

The promos for the upcoming historic twentieth season of ABC’s American Idol (USA, Syndicated) are looking good.

The show’s official Twitter profile even has a description that fits the moment.

Hopefully, the production will be memorable.

E.W. GLOBAL:

The
Africa, le grand concert (France, France 2) was a music event highlighting the top trending Francophone artists of African origin.

This vibrant showcase not only featured familiar names such as Angelique Kidjo and Aya Nakamura but was broadcast from a park in Paris, filled with adoring Afro Music fans.

Hopefully, we will get to see more of that next year.

THROWBACK:

Serving as a prequel to
Sex and the City (USA, HBO), The CW’s The Carrie Diaries (USA, Syndicated) is a multiple E.W. Recognitions Winning Series (with eleven nominations in total) that is the perfect choice for a binge-watching session.

Starring AnnaSophia Robb as a young Carrie Bradshaw whose trying to make a mark in the New York City of the 80s, this two-season long show is one whose cancellation I still cannot fathom.

Like, I do not know how a reboot would even work.

However, reruns of the show, on some lesser-known channel, could make for a great viewing time.

DAILY INSPIRATION

Happiness comes in relaxed simplicity, living in present awareness, and contentment with each precious moment of this life that is granted.

Awakened awareness is not dependent on any particular circumstance. We are each endowed with the clear perception that becomes dormant or obscured through the conditioning of fear, loss, and belief.

When we deeply relax in silence, our awareness effortlessly shines with a transforming brilliance.

We live with passion, with a twinkle in our eyes, aware that we are living in a grand mystery; feeling the radiance of its presence everywhere, energizing us to take care of the tasks at hand, sensibly and practically.

SPEAK OUT

#Celebs:

So, according to reports, the Spice Girls will be reuniting for a special performance at Victoria (a member of the girl group) and soccer legend David Beckham’s son, Brooklyn’s wedding.

You know the couple known for their version of Buckingham Palace ‘aptly’ nicknamed Beckingham Palace, right?

Ya, those guys.

But that’s not what piqued my interest.

Oh no…

So Brooklyn, who is 22 years old is getting hitched to Nicola Peltz, who's known for her role on A&E’s Bates Motel (USA).

Call me old-fashioned, but the age difference (Nicola is 27) is kinda concerning.

In my mind, I’m thinking: “It might not last”; “He is too young”; “This is a publicity stunt”; “She’s marrying him for his fortune and name”; “He is fulfilling his desire for older women”; “She is insecure.”

However, love can be blind, love can be unconventional.

Therefore, I am going to mind my own business.

Oh, and in case you didn’t know, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello broke up.

#Quotes:

“To be ready is much. To have the capacity for waiting is more. But to be able to utilize the right moment is everything.” – SCHNITZLER

“In each of us are places where we have never gone. Only by pressing the limits do you ever find them.” - JOYCE BROTHERS

“Bring me men to match my mountains. Bring me men to match my plains. Men with empires in their purpose and new eras in their brains.” - THOMAS PAINE

“When we tire of well-worn ways, we seek for new. This restless craving in the souls of men spurs them to climb, and to seek the mountain view.” - ELLA WHEELER WILCOX

“The hero is the one, who kindles a great light in the world, who sets up blazing torches in the dark streets of life for men to see by. The saint is the man who walks through the dark paths of the world, himself a light.” - FELIX ADLER

“When we are mindful of every nuance of our natural world, we finally get the picture – that we are only given one dazzling moment of life here on earth. And we must stand before that reality, both humbled and elevated, subject to every law of our universe, and grateful for our brief but intrinsic participation with it.” - ELIZABETH GILBERT

“If in our world there are vales of tears, there are hillsides also of joy and laughter, and peaks of splendor shining in the sun.” - H. SAMUEL

“Today, this hour, this minute, is the day, the hour, the minute, for each of us to sense the fact that life is good, with all its trials and troubles, and perhaps more interesting because of them.” - ROBERT UPDEGRAFF

“It doesn’t matter what is happening to the economy, government, or your industry; it matters what is going on in your imagination. If you’ve got a rich imagination, you’re going to have a rich experience.” - MARK VICTOR HANSEN

“There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something tomorrow.” - ORISON S. MARDEN

FLICK PICK

The
Lifetime (USA) Network has succeeded at carving out a name for itself as the go-to broadcaster of made-for-television movies based on true stories.

I doubt many would dispute that considering how popular lifetime titles are, especially on days when nothing else exciting is on.

E.W. Global Plus’ Favorite Movie for the 9th E.W. Year titled Pretty Cheaters, Deadly Lies (USA) is one of many movies that make the Lifetime Network a viewer’s preferred pick.
