Ryan Seacrest versus
Petra Mede?
Oh please, they both deserve to be equally recognized as the best hosts for the 4th Enzer’s World (E.W.) Year. Which is what they are; the
reigning royals of television hosting gigs.
I’ll begin with Ryan Seacrest.
Ryan and TV lovers like me go way
back. Ryan’s evolution as an on-screen host which occurred during his time on
FOX’s American Idol (A.I.) is one of the many reasons viewers continue to thank
our TV Gods for keeping him on the air. His presenting style is very engaging and
his confidence sets him apart from many other male hosts that just can’t GET
IT. Give him the red carpet or an awards show, Ryan never disappoints. He is
versatile, he speaks clearly and he has the best suits in town. The good looks
are the cherry on top. With A.I. now off-the-air, I wonder who will be responsible
for the end of Ryan Seacrest’s reign as E.W.’s Top TV Host.
What about Petra Mede?
When I think of Petra Mede, I smile. She has an amazing
personality that is fit for the small screen. She hosted the previous edition
of the Eurovision Song Contest which was held in her home country and won the
E.W. Top Hostess Recognition for that job. She won because she was like-able,
well-rehearsed, in the moment, impressively showcased her ability to speak multiple languages and confidently used her God-given humorous side.
I’d give her the job on any day.

HOT ON TV
The 59th Grammy Awards aired live on CBS this past
Sunday from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
The show, which was hosted by James Corden, was the liveliest of all Grammy
Awards ceremonies I have watched. The performances by some of pop music’s
biggest stars including Bruno Mars, Demi Lovato, Ed Sheeran and The Weeknd passed
the test and the presenters cast list for the night added to the evening’s
success.
James Corden did a good job. I’m happy that the producers decided
to give LL Cool J a well-deserved break. Hiring a comedian was the best
decision (for obvious reasons) and the redesigned stage kept most of us glued.
Overall, it was a memorable night. I hope they’ve already started planning for
the upcoming 60th Grammys.
HOTTER
The 4th season of Tyler Perry’s The Haves & the
Have Nots (airing on OWN) is on FIRE! The series was always packed with insane storylines but the current season takes it over the edge. I am not going to
spoil it for you. No, I’m just going to recommend the current season (catch-up
if you have to) and hope you get hooked.
Girls on HBO is ending! The 6th and final season of
this provocative series is currently on-air. I guess viewers are now tired of
watching Hannah and Adam have sex, hey, LOL.
Another show that isn’t returning is Showtime’s Masters of Sex. It
had a good run and there was no better time to let it go. Lead actors Lizzy
Caplan and Michael Sheen will not be forgotten. What they did on the show was
incredible.
Have you watched the 2017 NFL Superbowl Half-time Show featuring
Lady Gaga yet? Ah, it was magnificent. Gaga brought the house down by
performing some of her hit singles to a crowd that failed to keep it together.
Her performance is up there with Beyonce’s 2013 performance. You better be watching
it right now!
NBC could pick up a new version of American Idol! I read that
online just now. I cannot believe it! FOX really doesn’t want A.I. anymore,
LOL. I am glad that NBC wants to try A.I. and totally dominate (like seal the
deal) with these singing competitions. Hey, I can never complain because when
A.I. is back on the air, we will be #WINNING again. #EnzerLovesIdol
THROWBACK
Devious Maids aired its series finale on Lifetime in August 2016.
The final season left so many questions unanswered leaving fans in a pit of
sadness. You know, Devious Maids was THE SERIES that most turned to when
Desperate Housewives (which aired on ABC) ended. What’s going to happen now? Is
the whole HOUSEWIFE-THEME thing dead for good? I mean even daytime soap-operas
are becoming a stale genre.

Travel Ban! Travel Ban! Travel Ban!
The U.S. government’s decision to ban citizens from a number of Islamic
countries from entering the United States and the deportation of thousands of
immigrants living in the U.S. has been NEWS for days. There are many sides to
the story. One of them is that the U.S. government will probably save a lot of
money by denying millions of people entry into the U.S. Another side argues
that the lives of the deported and banned citizens have been put in danger and
all hope of ever living well has been thwarted while another side simply
believes that Trump’s era is the best time for America to pull out of
international affairs for reasons known to many.
At the end of the day, the
final call is made by either the Republicans or the Democrats. In this case, the
Republicans are in charge and will unapologetically do what they think is best
for their citizens.
That is an important part of governance that many are
missing: A Government Must Protect the Interests of Its Citizens First. Have
you heard of an American getting hurt after Trump took over?

HOT ON TV
How To Get
Away With Murder – I’m sold!
This
compelling series written by Peter Nowalk and airing on ABC has kept me glued
to my seat from minute one of episode one of season one.
The storylines
continuously blow my mind such that it really is difficult to describe how
fantastic the show is in words (it’s all oohs and aahs, I guess).
They (the
storylines) drown one in a dramatic mess that is as addictive as the strongest
drug out there – I’m literally shaking with excitement right now!
Unfortunately
the actors and actresses that were hired aren’t at par with what I’ve mentioned
above.
However, I still can’t think of other actors who could fill the current
cast’s shoes because they (as an ensemble) are as compatible as tongue and
saliva.
I am currently into the third season which has undoubtedly set the bar
as high as ever. The cliffhangers are out of this world and I can’t wait to
find out what the upcoming season finale has in store.
Surely, How To Get Away
With Murder gives viewers more than enough reasons to ‘Thank God It’s
Thursday.’ *wink*
HOTTER:
Miss
Universe is coming up on the 30th of January and will air live from
The Philippines. It’s never a bad idea to tune into a beauty pageant to watch
beautiful ladies showcase their many talents so I’ll definitely not be missing
that event. The team behind the telecast do not usually disappoint when it
comes to delivering world class productions therefore I am expecting a good
show.
THROWBACK:
The 2017
People’s Choice Awards aired live on CBS earlier this month and were hosted by
Joel McHale. The show was not a disappointment at all. All the segments were
entertaining and the host wasn’t so bad. I was actually glad he hosted the show
because he is hella funny.
Fifth Harmony performed live on TV for the first
time without Camila Cabello and messed up big time. Blake Shelton also performed and a host of well-known faces did a good job at presenting awards. I’m definitely
not missing the show next year as well.
I also got
to watch the 2016 Golden Globes Awards which also aired on NBC earlier this month.
Jimmy Fallon hosted the ceremony that featured numerous young people as
presenters. Overall, the show was well produced and is definitely a program I’d
watch again.
Another
telecast that I couldn’t afford to miss was the annual Miss World Pageant which
was broadcast live from Maryland, USA. The lively event which attracts millions
of viewers and whose parent company generates millions of dollars for charity
continues to lack at delivering a good television show. The layout of the stage
didn’t really make sense to me and the hosts of the night made numerous silly
mistakes. I did however like the selected finalists. It was clear that the bar
had been raised such that missing out on the next edition would be a big
mistake.
Shameless,
airing on Showtime recently concluded its 7th season. Kudos to the
writing team for such an incredible plot because season 7 of the show became a
staple I couldn’t live without. I pray and hope that it is not downhill from
here because to be honest Shameless was one of the few shows worth the watch on
a weekly basis during the fall TV season.

#Celebs
Enzer’s
Worlds’ (E.W.) Top Actors for the 4th E.W. Year are Emma Roberts &
Adam Driver.
Emma
Roberts stars as Chanel Oberlin in Fox’s Scream Queens and is killing it. Her
delivery is exceptional and her work on Scream Queens has done justice in
showcasing her acting skills. She is one of the many reasons I tune in each
week as I continuously struggle to understand why she is so underrated. Well, I
guess that changed when the E.W. Board crowned her the best actress of the past
E.W. Year, right?
Adam Driver
is also another underrated actor who outshone all the male actors in the past
E.W. Year. He does a stellar job at portraying Adam Sackler on HBO’s Girls (he
has been active on the show since its inception) and continues to impress in
other productions as well. One of the reasons he stands out is because of the
way in which he connects with his roles. He is so engaged and well-rehearsed
such that finding a flaw is almost impossible. I’d definitely not pass a chance
to watch him perform on a theatre stage.

A
well-known celebrity that deserves a special mention in this edition of
#TheRoundUp for all his uniquely entertaining YouTube videos is Adam Saleh. He
is E.W.’s Outstanding YouTube Star for the 4th E.W. Year whose life
has become an internet must watch reality show. Most YouTube stars are good at
what they do but Adam (during the previous E.W. Year) presented the most
creative, entertaining and well edited videos. Another huge advantage was the
fact that he has an exciting life that most just can’t afford to miss. He has
what most would call the ‘X-Factor.’
If you’re a
huge fan of Fifth Harmony then you’ve probably heard or read about one of their
group members quitting. Camila Cabello (she’s E.W.’s Top Celebrity for the Rest
of the Americas for the 4th E.W. Year) is probably better off singing
solo. The success of two of her hit singles (I Know What You Did Last Summer
& Bad Things) are testament to how effective she is in the music business
and how much being a part of Fifth Harmony was pulling her back. However, I
still feel that she should have continued to hold on to Fifth Harmony because
of how huge they are at the moment. Staying on for one more album, as suggested
by the other girls, wasn’t such a bad idea for her career - hey, at least she’s
lucky to have people that care about her in the industry. Could there be more to
the story?
