#TheRoundUp By Enzer - No. 5

Boom! No the ship hasn’t sailed, it just docked. Here’s #TheRoundUp

MUSIC SPOT
Let’s talk Simon Cowell: The mastermind behind some of our favorite acts including Leona Lewis, Ella Henderson and Olly Murs keeps on keeping on, and giving (the hurtful truth that is). I don’t think there is a word in English that could describe or define Simon Cowell. Some may call him mean, rude, immature, narcissistic, etc (I could go on for decades LOL) but I think that if you’re lucky enough to work with him, get signed under his label or even get mentored by him whilst contesting in some singing competition, then you’re on the right path, on your way up and above all you are going to make MAD dollar.

Keeping up with the magic of Simon Cowell, two groups that are rocking the charts and are so relevant in our circles are Fifth
Harmony and One Direction. I am particularly excited about Fifth Harmony because I feel like they’ve done a great job in altering their image with their full length debut album. Their new music is somewhat mature (twenty year olds can relate, unlike with their previous music which was more focused on teenage girls) and it celebrates achievements, femininity, independence, happiness and not forgetting sweet love. I also like that they have Christmas music out and not just Christmas music but Christmas music that is really good.

One Direction’s latest music is also good and worth buying. Not as good as Fifth Harmonys’ (if you ask me) but obviously better than whatever The Voice USA winner is going to release (prove me wrong The Voice, please!). I don’t like the name of the album though. I mean, who names their album ‘Four’ or any number or letter of the alphabet for that matter. Whoever names these albums needs to start taking their job and fans seriously and I’m talking to you too Beyonce (3) and Maroon 5 (V), LOL. You’re artists, thinkers, visionaries, poets, writers – I’m sure you can come up with something way more intelligent.

HOT ON TV
The X-Factor UK on ITV has a good reputation. The singing competition has (for over a decade) paved the way for many talented people and has unearthed some of the greatest voices of our day (some of which are mentioned above) but the eleventh season of the series didn’t really do justice for me. Though the judging panel (Simon Cowell, Cheryl, Mel B and Louis Walsh) is a great combination and the chosen contestants are truly gifted and deserving of their spots in the competition, the content of the series is rather slow, boring and dated. The eleventh season of this show reminded me of American Idol’s dark days. You remember the seasons when American Idol was close to getting cancelled? The X-Factor UK seems stuck in that mud pool. The themes are dreadful, the road to the live shows was excruciating (especially when Cheryl was unnecessarily mean to some contestants) and the lip-synching is so obvious. Conclusion: The X-Factor UK needs help A.S.A.P. Oh, but Dermot O’Leary can call at any time…LOL.

Moving on, Are You The One? (AYTO) on MTV had an epic first season. The first season of AYTO had The Bachelor and The Bachelorette both on ABC take a back seat in the dating series bus. AYTO Season One was the answer to a proper dating series on TV. Sadly, the second season of AYTO makes me want to puke in a thousand buckets. It’s not only a load of rubbish; it’s a load of decomposed rubbish! Don’t get me wrong, the contestants are good-looking and full of life but other than that the season is a disappointment and a waste of MTV airtime. Please step up! Another flop in MTV’s stable is the dating series Ex on the Beach. The show is ridiculous and is full of confused people. I don’t even get how it was renewed for a second season.

IN THE NEWS
Onto even more horrifying stories, the killings of civilians by terrorists seem to be on the rise. I think the only way to solve this problem is to talk at the same level. If either one of the parties involved feels like the other is provocative, condescending or even selfish then these attacks or killings will never end. I am very much concerned (amongst other concerns) about the Nigerian girls that were kidnapped in Chibok. I can’t even begin to imagine what it feels like to be one of those girls. Why does it have to be them? Why? Those girls should be left alone! If you are the bigger person then ‘talk’ to the adults that make our world go round. #BringBackOurGirls and #TalkToTheBoss.

Another African-American man was murdered by a police officer in New York. The whole incident was caught on camera, it was clear that the victim was innocent but the police officer/s involved was/were let go. This sparked protests in major American cities and another racial debate. I don’t know why this is happening but I think all these reports are further tarnishing America’s image and are making Russian and Chinease arguments stronger: Maybe America isn’t a good world leader after all.

There is a film in the works about the early days of Barack and Michele Obama’s exemplary relationship. I’m excited because I adore these two and because Tika Sumpter has been cast as Michele Obama! I think the casting directors made the right decision. She might not look much like Michele but she will do a good job. It might be difficult to associate her with a good and clean character (her character on Tyler Perry’s The Haves And The Have Nots has some villainous tendencies) but then again the mark of a great actress is rising above your challenges, which she’ll do.

There’s a story that trended a few days ago about a twelve year old boy that committed suicide because he had been bullied continuously for being gay. I didn’t even know that twelve year old kids knew what suicide was. Another sad fact is that the schools that are entrusted to protect these children only offer a letter of apology and speak out against bullying after a child is hurt or (as in this case) dead. I think the lack of LGBTI+ education is the problem. If more work was put into educating society about the Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, Transgender, Intersex+ (LGBTI+) community then most of these tragedies wouldn’t occur. Did you know that there are laws in some countries that prohibit "normal" people from having sex with Transgender people? It also starts at home. This boy was pushed to the edge by other kids, meaning the parents of the perpetrators were to blame. Wise men say “Charity begins at Home”, maybe homophobic parents whose kids were to blame for this tragedy should take a minute or two to think about those wise words.

DAILY INSPIRATION
It is essential to balance one’s life roles holistically. Every person plays many roles in life. The most important are: family, personal relationships, spiritual, social, career, financial, education, and physical. Compromise of any one of these will eventually compromise the others.

“Bring me men to match my mountains. Bring me men to match my plains, men with empires in their purpose and new eras in their brains.” – THOMAS PAINE

“Nothing is as real as a dream. The world can change around you, but your dream will not. Responsibilities need not erase it. Duties need not obscure it. Because the dream is within you, no one can take it away” – TOM CLANCY
