#TheRoundUp By Enzer - No. 69

 SPEAK OUT

#Celebs:

Nick, Joe, and Kevin grew up on our screens.

They went from being teen heartthrobs on Disney productions to admirable married men of Hollywood in what some may describe as a split second.

Yes, though this trio popularly known as the Jonas Brothers has come a long way, it’s clear that their story is still far from over.

And as Enzer’s World (E.W.)’s Top Celeb Duo/Group for the 8th E.W. Year 2020, the Jonas Brothers are slowly cementing their spot in our hearts and minds at a time when I felt they were never going to make it as a single musical act ever again.

KEVIN: in case you don’t follow, Kevin is the eldest. He seems like the quieter and mature type, and though I could argue that he is less popular (a.k.a. the Michelle of the group), he did score a reality TV deal with E! (USA) some years back in which he starred alongside his wife, Danielle. I’m sure he’s still an eligible bachelor to many daydreamers out there, #LOL

JOE: the middle sibling, though he acts like the youngest *hides*. He was the center of attention when he was with pop band DNCE and he, by far has the best vocals of the three. #DontLie #Please

NICK: the youngest and probably the shortest as well. He was the sex symbol of the 2010s and the only one to achieve success as a solo act in music and other ventures.

Together, I guess they are just fine gentlemen.

#Quotes:

“There is nothing more fragile than civilization.” – HAVELOCK ELLIS

“A real decision is measured by the fact that you’ve taken a new action. If there’s no action, you haven’t truly decided.” - ANTHONY ROBBINS

“Champions keep playing until they get it right.” - BILLIE JEAN KING

“Love must be learned, and learned, and learned again and again: there is no end to it.” - KATHERINE ANN PORTER

“The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond them into the impossible.” - ARTHUR C. CLARKE

“If your mind can conceive it; and your heart can believe it – then you can achieve it.” - MUHAMMAD ALI

“The secret of success is to be like a duck, smooth and unruffled on top, but paddling furiously underneath.” - BILL COSBY

“Hope sees the invisible, feels the intangible and achieves the impossible.” - UNKNOWN

“There is nothing like a dream to create the future.” - VICTOR HUGO

“Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.” - MOTHER TERESA

HOT ON TV

Guess what?

I caught the bug too, this time around.

Netflix’s The Crown (USA, UK) Season 4 has to be one of the best releases of the current E.W. Year!

As many may know, The Crown chronicles the ever-so-drama-filled lives of the British royals by showcasing some of their historical highlights using exaggerated plot-lines.

I am in awe of the set, the costumes, the graphics, the writing, and the stellar performances by some of Britain’s finest, including Olivia Coleman (Elizabeth), Gillian Anderson (Margaret), Tobias Menzies (Philip), Joshua O’Connor (Charles) and Emma Corrin (Diana).

I mean, what’s not to love about this series?

Sadly, a lot of people are not happy with the writing and immediately expressed their dislike soon after the release of the fourth season that closely follows the earlier times of Charles and Diana’s rocky marriage.

In my head, I’m thinking: “Wow, Netflix sure knows how to stir up controversial debates with its originals.”

HOTTER:

The 2020 AMAs (USA) and the 2020 PCAs (USA) all went virtual this year, as expected.

The AMAs, though hosted by Taraji P. Henson at their usual chosen venue, The Microsoft Theater were sadly not as memorable as the previous edition. However, I did like the presenters, the winners, and some of the performances.

The PCAs event, hosted by Demi Lovato at a California hangar was also a little disappointing but not a waste of time.

The Bachelor (USA) premiered its 25th season with a new guy (of course) and 25 ladies: drama queens, loonies, bikini bods - you name it! One thing which stands out is how tall, and handsome Matt James (The Bachelor) is. Yea, he is tall...

The 2020 Grammys (USA) are coming up soon, hopefully! Thank God they decided to give Trevor Noah a chance. I cannot wait to find out what they have planned in terms of the performances, the stage and...the winners (of course).

I am not going to dwell on the Grammy drama that always precedes the main ceremony because...it’s depressing. #ThankUNext

Other series to catch:

Tyler Perry's The Haves and the Have Nots (USA, OWN),

This Is Us (USA),

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist (USA),

Shameless (USA, Showtime),

The Bachelorette (USA),

The Kelly Clarkson Show (USA).

WEB TV:

The 2020 Streamys (USA, YouTube) surprisingly had a glitch-free ceremony this E.W. Year. The production was flawless and set the bar high for anyone who’s even thinking about dabbling in web event production.

A.I. UPDATE:

According to reports, the American Idol (USA) producers want the upcoming season to feel normal. Yes, yes, and yes to that because nothing beats the studio - their studio. If The Voice (USA), America’s Got Talent (USA), and The Masked Singer (USA) all did it in a studio, then I’m sure American Idol can do it too.

E.W. GLOBAL:

Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel (UK, BBC One) is a fun-filled game show where celebrities help some ordinary folk win some cash (quid) in rounds of quizzing, all influenced by a rotating wheel, and some good luck.

Hey, I think the producers are on to something!

Other series to catch:

Naked Attraction (UK, Channel 4

Gomora (South Africa, Mzansi Magic),

Scandal! (South Africa),

The Masked Singer (UK),

Beat The Chasers (UK),

Kings of Jo'burg (South Africa, Netflix).

THROWBACK:

Under the Dome (USA) that aired from 2013 to 2015 was a series based on a Stephen King novel of the same name.

The series followed a group of residents who are suddenly entrapped by a dome that not only cuts them off from the rest of the world but also complicates their daily routines and lifestyles.

MUSIC SPOT

Fifth Harmony versus Little Mix.

Both of the groups are from Simon Cowell, can easily be distinguished, and are BFFs with the auto-tune technology. One is on a hiatus (a.k.a, a breakup) whilst the other group is beginning to crumble, like that London Bridge ‘they’ always sing of.

But one thing’s for sure - they made BOPS for days (so far). #PressPlay

IN THE NEWS

The COVID variants have sent shock-waves throughout the globe and forced new rounds of strict lock-downs to be enforced. What makes matters worse is that the vaccines which are set to be or have been rolled out already in some parts of the world, may not be or are not helpful at all in fighting against these variants.

Now that’s a dilemma.

Visuals of Trump supporters protesting at Capitol Hill in bizarre costumes made the rounds recently. Some called it freedom of expression, while others called it an embarrassment even concluding that the U.S. had lost its position as the world’s leader in democracy.

Well, for a second there I thought Halloween had come sooner than expected because of those ridiculous costumes the protesters were adorned in.

Who wears that to a protest?

Oh, and Trump announced that he won't be attending Biden's inauguration, plus a few social media giants suspended his (Trump) accounts.

FLICK PICK

Switched
(USA) is a teen comedy about two scholars who magically switch bodies for a period long enough for them to learn a great lesson. Yes, the story has been redone several times but this family-friendly flick puts a little twist on the switch, I swear!

The Christmas Setup
(USA, Lifetime) made headlines for breaking the ice as one of the few LGBTI+ themed Christmas rom-coms on TV (ever). The movie is about a guy who is set up by his mom when he returns to his hometown for Christmas. Yea, it’s like watching a Hallmark movie on Lifetime
