HOT ON TV

HOTTER:

My thoughts on the ongoing Hollywood Writers and Actors Strike?

Well their grievances about eroding royalties and insecurities about the increasing use of artificial intelligence are valid.

It’s clear that both the writers and actors are becoming less of a vital element to the networks on the whole. Therefore, I believe that this impasse will be protracted.

Hopefully, some of our favorite productions will continue to see the light of day.

Hopefully, this doesn’t spell the end of the lucrative and viable Hollywood Television era as we know it.

The fourth season of the Netflix (USA) series You (USA) took us on a thrill ride to Europe with Joe (played by Penn Badgley).

Joe, now teaching at a U.K. university, gets embroiled in a scandal involving a group of wealthy socialites, fails to abate his obsessions, and finds unexpected love.

A fifth and final season has been confirmed for release in 2024, and we are hopeful, that it all comes full circle (for viewers, not Joe, #LOL).

*Penn Badgley won the 11th E.W. Recognition, Outstanding Portrayal - Actor for playing Joe on You. He also won E.W. Steam's Outstanding Portrayal - Actor Recognition for the same role.

*You won E.W.'s Top Recognition, Outstanding Series - U.S. Production (Fictional Television). The series also won Outstanding Couple (Fictional Television) for the coupled characters Joe & Kate. Kate is played by Charlotte Ritchie

Riverdale (USA, The CW) concluded its run on television with a bizarre seventh season.

Betty, played by Lili Reinhart, and Jughead played by Cole Sprouse’s intriguing journey capped off the story in a very evocative finale episode that scored an average.

The show had run its course, but will forever be missed nonetheless.

Riverdale and some of its cast members have, over the years, scooped E.W. Recognitions (amongst multiple nominations) including:
  • 11th E.W. Recognition for Outstanding Cast (Fictional Television);
  • 9th E.W. Recognition for Outstanding Series – Mystery (Fictional Television);
  • 9th E.W. Recognition for Outstanding Actor won by KJ Apa (Archie) (Fictional Television);
  • 7th E.W. Recognition for Top Male Celeb won by Cole Sprouse (Celebrities);
  • 6th E.W. Recognition for Outstanding Actress won by Lili Reinhart (Fictional Television);
  • 5th E.W. Recognition for Outstanding Music (Fictional Television).

How I Met Your Father (USA, Hulu) got the boot!

That outcome does not make sense at all.

Could it be that the writers of the show walked out?

Is it the low-ratings?

But it’s on a streaming service.

And we still haven’t solved the mystery of who the father is.

Please don’t do this to us.

*How I Met Your Father won the 11th E.W. Recognition, Outstanding Family (Fictional Television) for sibling characters Jesse & Ellen. The show also won Outstanding Series – Sitcom (Fictional Television).

A.I. UPDATE:

The 21st season of American Idol (A.I.) was a great production.

However, I had one issue with this past season: the selection of finalists.

Well, the top 26 selected after the showcase in Hawaii was not much to complain about.

The top 20 who went on to vie for viewer’s votes was a questionable group.

The top 12 selected through the initial public voting round were even more of a questionable gang.

And, yes, I am right because most of the finalist borderline botched their live show performances. Even the look on the judge's faces confirmed that.

The silver lining was the betterment of the top 2 finalists: Iam Tongi & Megan Danielle

Those two did consistently well throughout the competition, such that, in my eyes, they graduated from amateurs to proper artists.

A belated congratulations to A.I.’s newest winner, Iam Tongi

Guess we got a non-white guy with a guitar this time around.

E.W. GLOBAL:

Starring and led by Kgomotso Christopher as Nandi, Fatal Seduction (South Africa, Netflix) is a new series centered around a middle-aged college professor (Nandi) whose marriage is tested when she suspects her husband is cheating.

A miscarriage, and the loss of a best friend, and an obsessive college student exacerbate the situation, making for memorable viewing time.

The series, filled with concupiscent characters is well-balanced by the mystery-themed plotline.

#TotallyBUZZING

Also new and #BUZZING is the series Shaka iLembe (South Africa, Mzansi Magic).

The reportedly high-budget production, dramatizes the story of Shaka Zulu, a relevant figure in the pre-colonial history of Southern Africa.

The series is undoubtedly noteworthy with some of the best costume designs seen onscreen this year.

DAILY INSPIRATION

Deepak Chopra
eloquently sums up one of the priceless secrets of success as follows:

“You can consciously change the energy and informational content of your own quantum mechanical body, and therefore influence the energy and informational content of your extended body – your environment, your world – and cause things to manifest in it.

This conscious change is created by two qualities inherent in consciousness: attention and intention.

Attention energizes, and intention transforms.

Whatever you put your attention to will grow stronger in your life. Whatever you take your attention away from will wither, disintegrate, and disappear. Intention, however, triggers the transformation of energy and information. Intention organizes its fulfillment.”

It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.

#QUOTES:

“All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity. But the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible.” - LAWRENCE OF ARABIA

“Few will have the greatness to bend history itself. But each of us can work to change a small portion of events. And in the total of all those acts will be written the history of this generation.” - ROBERT F. KENNEDY

“It's treasured times and mountains we climb that gives to us power to make it through each hour. It’s feelings of love and God up above, that we always find a way to smile each day.” - PAULA DUNCAN

“When all is said and done, the ride of life is one of great pleasure, hard times and all. To avoid the bumps is to deny growth, happiness, and life’s purpose.” - ART BERG

“My sun sets to rise again.” - ROBERT BROWNING

“If I have ever made any valuable discoveries, it has been owing more to patient attention than to any other talent.” - ISAAC NEWTON

“Character may be manifested in the great moments, but it is made in the small ones.” - PHILLIP BROOKS

“If you want to keep your memories, you first have to live them.” - BOB DYLAN

“The greatest use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it.” - WILLIAM JAMES

“When we are motivated by goals that have deep meaning, by dreams that need completion, by pure love that needs expressing - then we truly live.” - GREG ANDERSON

Shawn Mendes
’ meteoric rise was (honestly) an unexpected disruption in entertainment.

Churning out hit, after hit, after hit became his thing (for some time), and as far as I can remember, he trended for ‘good reasons.’

His songs are arguably some of the best of pop, and his delivery is remarkable.

The list below is a testament to that.

FLICK PICK

New #Queer rom-com - Red, White & Royal Blue (USA, Syndicated) is #BUZZING!

With a perfectly timed release, an adorable cast, and a heart-warming storyline, this adaptation ticks most of all the boxes (yeah, it’s a bit fast-paced for me).

Leading stars are Nicholas Galitzine (Prince Henry) and Taylor Zakhar Perez (Alex), with Uma Thurman (Ellen), Sarah Shahi (Zahra), Rachel Hilson (Nora), Stephen Fry (King James), Ellie Bamber (Princess Beatrice) and Thomas Flynn (Prince Philip) in supporting roles.

After watching the movie, you’ll agree that a sequel (and maybe even a prequel) makes so much sense. #Totally

IN THE NEWS

Mugshots of former United States of America (U.S.A./U.S.) President Donald Trump and his cronies are doing the rounds. #Awkward

The son of current U.S. President Joe Biden’s alleged shenanigans could negatively influence the outcome of the next U.S. Election. #Awkward

So the Democrats (supposedly) got Trump and co. nabbed for the U.S. Capitol Violence of January 2021, and we’re all supposed to not believe that the Republicans either had something on the Democrats (via Biden’s son) or cleverly cooked up an allegation.

#ShredsPolitics101CollegeNotes

This one’s like a cat-and-mouse game. The question is, who's the cat, and who’s the mouse?

#LOL

According to reports the Russo-Ukrainian War is intensifying. A warrant of arrest is out for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Two key leaders snubbed the G20 Summit hosted in...wait for it...India.

It might not seem that way for now, but this is beginning to be a lot like a World War (4).

“Advocates for the Global South”, The B.R.I.C.S. Club approved the admittance of new member states. Funny, ‘cos I liked the acronym B.R.I.C.S.

I wonder what acronym they’re going to use going forward...

The natural disasters in North Africa are a horror show. The death toll is alarming and possibly the worst ever recorded.

Disasters have also ravaged parts of Turkiye (formerly Turkey); the U.S. State of Hawaii; China’s Capital City, Beijing; and parts of Southern African country, Malawi.

TECH TALK

What is going on at Twitter, sorry X, or is it Dogecoin?

I don’t get why Elon Musk (who recently purchased the social media site for 44 Billion U.S. Dollars) wants to rid the world of the Twitter brand and associated terminology (tweets, tweeting, etc.) - if he hasn't done so already.

What’s the vendetta? What did the Blue Bird do to hurt Mr. Musk’s feelings?

Fine, Twitter was not turning a profit as a public entity (reportedly), but scrapping the Twitter trademark from a marketplace that it ‘disrupted’ has to be one of the biggest blunders in the tech business or just unnecessary.

#SorryThatsJustMe

And what’s up with the sudden overhauls, tweaks, and retrogrades?

Mr. Musk, I’ll be submitting my resume soon.

Kudos though, for revamping the Premium Services.

And don’t ask me why I haven’t subscribed to X Premium (if that's what its called). *hides*

Then came along our buddy, Meta Platforms (owners of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp), and their “better”, “less dramatic”, “simplified”, and “not commandeered by Elon Musk” version of a micro-blogging site, “aptly” named, Threads

No, it's a good app, I believe. Not sure if it will hold sway like Twitter (now X) has but, it is a great addition to their portfolio.

That’s what’s baffling, getting me all emotional.

Twitter (with all the terminology and the freebies) was immensely impactful (and a potential cash cow).

Not sure if X will be equally effective, going forward.
