#TheRoundUp By Enzer - No. 51

SPEAK OUT

#Celebs

Love is in the air, once again.

Jamie & Nikki Perkins, Enzer’s World (E.W.)’s Outstanding Web Star Couple/Duo for the 5th E.W. Year are the perfect example of a love story gone right. They are the perfect couple. They are the couple which defines relationship goals. They are… our top web couple of the year.

This Australian duo caught my attention about a year ago when one of their YouTube videos popped up on my computer screen. After that inexorable click happened, my world was altered forever.

There is definitely something in that Australian water because I cannot get enough of their daily lives. They have the most adorable daughter who’s as bubbly and witty as her parents and an ordinary life that works for the camera.

There is no doubt that these two are on the list of celebrities I would invite to dinner. #FingersCrossed, of course.

The Ryan Reynolds & Blake Lively duo (E.W.’s Top Celebrity Couple for the 5th E.W. Year) is a good looking couple with good-looking kids and impressive career credits. I am glad that they are still together (well, according to media reports) and that they have protected their relationship in a way that ‘fills the cracks.’ That is what a Hollywood couple needs, sometimes.

Speaking of Hollywood breakups, one of the saddest days of my life was when I read an article and watched TV inserts about Fergie and Josh Duhamel’s breakup.  I loved Fergie and Josh’s relationship. When news broke out that they were together, I wasn’t so sure because they didn’t look compatible. Yes, they did end up divorcing, but I feel like they had conquered all the odds and breaking up just simply took the dating world back to square one. #SadDayIndeed

A couple which I wish was real is Beth & Randall Pearson from This Is Us on NBC played by Susan Kelechi Watson (Beth) and Sterling K. Brown (Randall).
They have it all. Their love is unstoppable, they’re careers are noteworthy, they have beautiful kids and I love their house. OMG, it’s the house that we all want as a family home. They stand out because they are at a point where most couples would be in doubt about a future together and yet here they are exploring emotionally, financially, mentally…I could go on. They should be on the Valentine’s Day poster (at least for 2018).

Beth & Randall Pearson are E.W.’s Outstanding Fictional TV Series Couple for the 5th E.W. Year

Sterling K. Brown was nominated for the Outstanding Fictional TV Series Actor Recognition for the same year.

“Self-pity in its early stages is as snug as a feather mattress. Only when it hardens does it become uncomfortable.” – MAYA ANGELOU

“The greatest possession we have costs nothing, it’s known as love. A personal greatest emotional need is to feel appreciated.” – BRIAN JETT

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” – HELEN KELLER

HOT ON TV

Which TV shows are close to losing it? Well, continue reading to find.

I’ll begin with Grown-ish airing on Freeform. I enjoyed watching the first episode. The pilot got my attention because the show is set on a college campus. Who doesn’t smile when they reminisce about their college days? That made the show HOT ON TV.
However, the cringe-worthy acting and dull actors resulted in a below average score. I lost all of the excitement and energy for that show and would definitely throw a couple of rotten tomatoes on its path. I don’t expect the show to get a third season.

Another TV series which is quite disappointing is
Kingdom on Audience Network. Nick Jonas is the only thing that makes that show worth –a-watch; otherwise, it’s destined for the TV trash can. I feel like the producers were trying too hard to reinvent a story similar to The Sopranos (HBO) which I also didn’t like. Yea, it’s just Nick, he’s medicinal.

The Four: Battle For Stardom is a new reality TV singing competition series airing on FOX and hosted by the one and only Fergie. The promos got me excited and the first three or four episodes were bearable, however, the show is losing the energy which it initially exuded. The show’s judging panel (Meghan Trainor, DJ Khaled, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Charlie Walk) act like their ‘high’ at all times and a lot of amazing singers are unfairly getting the boot early in the game.
In contradiction to the previous sentence, I actually do like Charlie Walk. His immeasurable experience in the music business is evident throughout the show. I just wish he could tone it down a little bit, that’s all.

Fergie is a one of a kind hostess, by the way.

HOTTER:

Mom on CBS is beginning to bore most of us. The writers are clearly running out of ideas (i.e. the humor is dry) and most of the cast members have become general. Anna Faris (Christy) is still killing it on camera. She is the only actor on the show that is effectively holding the fort otherwise; I would not be surprised if news of the show's cancelation broke out in a few weeks.

The 60th Grammy Awards Ceremony aired live on CBS a few days ago. James Corden returned as host of this spectacular show and Bruno Mars went home with the night’s biggest accolade. Overall, the production was phenomenal. I liked the graphics shown on screen and the stage was perfect (smaller but effective). The Recording Academy always puts on an outstanding show so my expectations were met.

The seventh season of The Voice on ITV sucks. The British series has an exceptional production team but the rest of the show's aspects are lifeless. Skip the show if it’s recommended.

I can’t stop watching the latest season of Modern Family on ABC. The show has somehow managed to keep me glued to my small screen from the beginning to the end of each episode such that all the doubt I had about the show’s future has suddenly vanished. #Timeless

Shameless on Showtime concluded its eighth season a few days ago. I was impressed. The season was a roller-coaster ride which I never wanted to end. A number of scenes deserve high honor and I really hope the next season continues on the same streak.

Other Buzzing TV Shows: Riverdale (The CW), How To Get Away With Murder (ABC), Dynasty (The CW)

WEB TV:

Guess what I stumbled upon a few weeks ago? A show called Best.Cover.Ever. available only on YouTube, can you believe it? A high-quality show about the cover music that we are so in love with here on E.W. has finally arrived. Discovering that was like receiving manna from heaven.

The show is hosted by Ludacris (good decision) and it features top musical acts and their top-charting music. It’s a great show to binge watch on a boring weekend and I sincerely hope that they make more episodes.

THROWBACK:

The 2018 Golden Globe Awards on NBC were worth it. Seth Meyers hosted the ceremony and Oprah received a special award. It was a good show, I am glad I did not miss the event and I hope the producers continue the good work. It’s all good.

Season 13 of The Voice on NBC had an amazing finale show. A number of chart-topping musicians featured on the guest list and the finalists were the crème de la crème. It has been a while since I’ve enjoyed watching a season finale of a reality TV singing competition series so that episode was a breath of fresh air.

The popular French radio station, NRJ held its annual NRJ Music Awards in November of last year. The ceremony which aired on TF1 from the South of France has improved tremendously and is becoming an important pop culture event.
The host (Nikos Aliagas) was incredible and the lineup of performing acts and presenters was impressive and truly set the event apart from other ceremonies that I’ve watched.

The show’s producers have been using the same stage design for the last couple of years, but every time the show returns it’s as if we have it on TV for the first time. It’s a prestigious event with a little je ne sais quoi

A.I. UPDATE:

The American Idol (A.I.) reboot on ABC begins in
March. Don’t forget to keep checking this section of #TheRoundUp by Enzer for views, analysis, recaps (and maybe even spoilers), news and the predictions.  I predicted Nick Fradiani’s win in 2015 so place your bets wisely, LOL.

#TheRoundUp By Enzer - No. 50

HOT ON TV

The C.W. has done it again. The 80’s reboot of the television classic, Dynasty has created a television frenzy which qualifies as a historical moment in media. Oh, and I hope that is an understatement, LOL.

Lead actors and actresses, Elizabeth Gillies (Fallon Carrington), Nathalie Kelley (Krystle Carrington), Grant Snow (Blake Carrington), James Mackay (Steven Carrington) and the actors and actresses that portray the foes that are part of that financial success are breathtakingly giving viewers an exaggerated on-screen insight into the lives of the Atlanta elite through story-lines that cover all matters of typical American love lives. There’s the interracial romance, the gay hookups, the marriage with a large age difference and a sad story-line about the one that got away.

This show is not only HOT ON TV but it is also my television obsession of the year - I really hope it doesn’t suffer the same fate as other The C.W. reboots like 90210 and Melrose Place.
Thanks to the developers (Sallie Patrick, Josh Schwartz, and Stephanie Savage) a promising series has finally found a home on our television screens (at least for now).

HOTTER:

Shameless is back on T.V. for an eighth season on Showtime (Enzer’s WordE.W.Recognitions’ Best T.V. Channel/Network/Station/Platform nominee for the 5th E.W. Year, 2017).
I am enjoying watching the evolution of all the main characters of the series and the unforeseen events that result from the evolution.

Frank (William H. Macy) is making amends and turning a new leaf (or at least attempting to do so), Fiona (Emmy Rossum) is now a landlord and is also losing her sex drive (ugh women, LOL), Lip (Jeremy Allen White) is sober, Ian (Cameron Monaghan) is maturing in love, Carl (Ethan Cutkosky) has found his calling in the national guard, Liam (Christian Isaiah) is beginning to face challenges and our favorite, Debbie (Emma Kenney) is every woman. Don’t you just love the Gallagher family?

Another series which I am not missing this fall/winter T.V. season is ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder. The cliffhangers (usual), the after-effects of Wes’ death and the highly intense courtroom scenes are dominant this season with Viola Davis (Annalise Keating) in the lead, once again.

If you would like to view tweets of the E.W. Live Tweet Session of the 2nd Episode of the season, then simply type

...into your Twitter search bar and all of the tweets will appear on your screen.

*Other T.V. series which are buzzing on E.W. are Riverdale (The C.W.), This is Us (NBC) and Modern Family (ABC).

WEB TV:

If you have never heard of a gay web series called Kuntergrau, then you are living under a giant rock, LOL. The series is E.W.’s Outstanding Web Series for the 5th E.W. Year and is entirely in the German language.
The gay lifestyle of a group of young adults in a city in Germany is portrayed in high-quality visuals with scenes which were professionally shot. In short, check it out.

THROWBACK:

The Primetime Emmys, the MTV EMAs, and the AMAs rocked my world a couple of weeks ago. The Emmy producers hit the reinvent button this year by introducing new elements with the unexpected wins as the cherry on top, all on CBS and hosted by Stephen Colbert.

The EMA Gods dished out awards on a large stage in London with a long lineup of international artists performing hit songs of the year and Rita Ora hosting the show. It was not my favorite telecast of the year, but I will be watching next year.

The AMAs on ABC surpassed all expectations. The new stage and the new order of events improved the quality of the show and Tracee-Ellis Ross (the hostess of the night) should host this show again i.e. she killed the gig.

Other events which aired last month on my small telly were the Miss World and Miss Universe finals. The Miss World finals telecast scored an average mark (nothing new). The Miss Universe telecast, on the other hand, was a superb show.
The beauties that walked the glittering finals stage and the rest of the show’s complements (inserts, music performances) were captivating and definitely world class. The producers of the show set the bar even higher.

A.I. UPDATE:

We are a few weeks away from the premiere of American Idol (A.I.) on ABC. Three contestants competed for a golden ticket during the live T.V. broadcast of the AMAs and the excitement keeps building here, on E.W.

Information about the course which the upcoming season of the series will take when it begins in 2018 is not available anywhere (or has not yet leaked {*hides*}), so I guess we will have to wait and see.

SPEAK OUT

#Celebs

Our Outstanding Actor in a Fictional T.V. Series for the 5th E.W. Year, Freddie Highmore has proven once again, how supremely talented he is in his new T.V. role on CBS’s The Good Doctor. Even though numerous similarities between his role on Bates Motel (A&E) and his role on The Good Doctor can be identified easily (as if viewers are diners being offered the exact same menu but in different restaurants), I still feel as if the show (The Good Doctor) would lack a vital element if Freddie was absent.

It is a pity The Good Doctor is not on E.W.’s HOT ON TV list yet.

IN THE NEWS

News of reports of sexual harassment at multiple workplaces has been trending for a while now. It saddens me ‘till this day that victims only have one option – to speak out when it is too late or the damage has been done. Besides exposing all the ‘sexual predators’, work on finding a resolution on how to tackle the problem of victims choosing to remain silent must begin or intensify in our communities. I am glad a lot of popular people spoke out about their experiences because that raises awareness and discourages silence.

Silence must not be an option!
