#TheRoundUp By Enzer - No. 55

HOT ON TV

Halloween is a year-long season these days on T.V. with all the amazing series which debuted and returned this fall.  One that stands out the most is the thrilling, sorry Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix which was created and is produced by the people that produce Riverdale on The CW.

I am overly impressed with the cinematography and the high caliber of portrayals which can only be rivaled by Game of Thrones on HBO

Yes, we have found competition!

Though the series revolves around a teenage girl (well, Sabrina Spellman) played by Kiernan Shipka, whose adventures may be a little juvenile, I am sure the excellent direction, outrageous outfits, and somewhat scary but mildly sexy scenes will keep the adults glued to their screens too.

Honestly, I’m hooked!

The reboot of the hit The WB series, Charmed (The CW) is not bad at all. I like the new set of sisters and all the exciting challenges which they face as they try to navigate through the dark world which they are stuck in. It’s a great show for those with a little more time to kill.

A few other horrors to not miss: Riverdale (which has upped the ante), Midnight, Texas on NBC, Tell Me a Story on CBS All Access and American Horror Story on FX

HOTTER:

New Amsterdam on NBC: a new medical drama with an interesting plot, starring 90210 (on The CW) alumni, Ryan Eggold as Dr. Max Goodwin is recommended for all those wishing to deviate from Greys Anatomy on ABC’s annoying love stories which can be equated to daytime TV’s endless roller-coaster rides. Mhm, I said it!

Hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross for the second time in a row, the 2018 American Music Awards (AMAs) were totally lit! The performances by Cardi B, Camila Cabello, Twenty One Pilots, Taylor Swift, and the gospel medley at the end of the show brought the house down, #TOTALLY

The 2018 People's Choice Awards on E! debuted in style on the network. I do however feel like they were too much of an E! show and not a true representative of the entertainment industry as a whole (which CBS pulled off effortlessly). Otherwise, a great start for E!

The 2018 NRJ Music Awards on TF1 took the French music scene by storm yet again when top achieving artists of the year assembled with their fans for a splendid night of celebration. The show was hosted (once again) by Enzer's World (E.W.)'s Outstanding Televised Event Host for the 6th E.W. Year, Nikos Aliagas. I particularly enjoyed watching the performances by the Francophone acts (they call them that) and Nikos, who never disappoints.

How about the 2018 Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony? Exceptional it was! The NBC telecast which included most of Saturday Night Live on NBC’s familiar cast members had the best stage. The hosts did a great job, like no other host (no shade) and the funny moments were unbearable, in a good way.
I really wish NBC could do this again next year, as in back to back. #Sighs

How to Get Away with Murder on ABC may be losing us. The fifth season kicked off on a low and the writers even had the nerve to sorta find a replacement for Wes? #Mediocrity

The 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) were held in Bilbao, Spain a few weeks ago and were hosted by Beauty from Beauty and the Beast, Hailee Steinfeld. Camila Cabello reigned supreme by winning the most awards and Janet Jackson received the Global Icon Award. I loved how super energized everyone was and how it all seemed like a huge televised beach party in Ibiza.

WEB TV:

The Queens Project, available on Youtube is an exhilarating series about a group of gay New Yorkers finding purpose, confronting fears and succumbing to attractions. I will never hate myself for stumbling upon this web series. I hope you like it!

A.I. UPDATE:

The Voice on NBC keeps stealing our Idol people ya’ll! First it was Jennifer Hudson (who also coached on the British version) and then they roped in Kelly Clarkson who had previously bashed Idol producers for not paying her what they had promised to pay her. And who kept on telling us about how she couldn’t wait to leave her record label (whatever, she made some of the best timeless albums in the history of Grammy Award-winning music anyway), and whose back for a second season after winning the first (like we are shocked she won).

This leaves me wondering who they are gonna persuade to join them next. Adam Lambert? Chris Daughtry? Fantasia?

Hey, The Voice! Stop stealing our Idol people!

Anyway, American Idol on ABC Season 2 (17) auditions wrapped up a few days ago. #CantWait

E.W. GLOBAL:

E.W. Global-West/Plus’ Outstanding T.V. Soap Opera, for the 6th E.W. Year is British soap, Emmerdale airing weekdays on ITV. The series is captivating, authentically written and a staple in many households. It must be one of your faves too, soon.

THROWBACK:

Telenovela on NBC produced and starring Eva Longoria premiered in late 2015 and only lasted for one season but made a great impact either way. The satirical show revolving around the cast of a popular Spanish telenovela truly deserved another chance. I am #TOTALLY binge watching that soon.

IN THE NEWS

World leaders gathered in Paris a few days ago for the world war one centenary armistice. During one of the proceedings, President Putin publicly ignored Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte who were standing (from left to right in that order) next to President Trump and First Lady Melania, who he did not hesitate to greet.

Had they seen each other earlier? Was President Putin put off by each's speech? Was he sending a strong message to the German and the French people?

I’ll let you ponder that.

#TheRoundUp By Enzer - No. 51

SPEAK OUT

#Celebs

Love is in the air, once again.

Jamie & Nikki Perkins, Enzer’s World (E.W.)’s Outstanding Web Star Couple/Duo for the 5th E.W. Year are the perfect example of a love story gone right. They are the perfect couple. They are the couple which defines relationship goals. They are… our top web couple of the year.

This Australian duo caught my attention about a year ago when one of their YouTube videos popped up on my computer screen. After that inexorable click happened, my world was altered forever.

There is definitely something in that Australian water because I cannot get enough of their daily lives. They have the most adorable daughter who’s as bubbly and witty as her parents and an ordinary life that works for the camera.

There is no doubt that these two are on the list of celebrities I would invite to dinner. #FingersCrossed, of course.

The Ryan Reynolds & Blake Lively duo (E.W.’s Top Celebrity Couple for the 5th E.W. Year) is a good looking couple with good-looking kids and impressive career credits. I am glad that they are still together (well, according to media reports) and that they have protected their relationship in a way that ‘fills the cracks.’ That is what a Hollywood couple needs, sometimes.

Speaking of Hollywood breakups, one of the saddest days of my life was when I read an article and watched TV inserts about Fergie and Josh Duhamel’s breakup.  I loved Fergie and Josh’s relationship. When news broke out that they were together, I wasn’t so sure because they didn’t look compatible. Yes, they did end up divorcing, but I feel like they had conquered all the odds and breaking up just simply took the dating world back to square one. #SadDayIndeed

A couple which I wish was real is Beth & Randall Pearson from This Is Us on NBC played by Susan Kelechi Watson (Beth) and Sterling K. Brown (Randall).
They have it all. Their love is unstoppable, they’re careers are noteworthy, they have beautiful kids and I love their house. OMG, it’s the house that we all want as a family home. They stand out because they are at a point where most couples would be in doubt about a future together and yet here they are exploring emotionally, financially, mentally…I could go on. They should be on the Valentine’s Day poster (at least for 2018).

Beth & Randall Pearson are E.W.’s Outstanding Fictional TV Series Couple for the 5th E.W. Year

Sterling K. Brown was nominated for the Outstanding Fictional TV Series Actor Recognition for the same year.

“Self-pity in its early stages is as snug as a feather mattress. Only when it hardens does it become uncomfortable.” – MAYA ANGELOU

“The greatest possession we have costs nothing, it’s known as love. A personal greatest emotional need is to feel appreciated.” – BRIAN JETT

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” – HELEN KELLER

“No man is wise enough by himself.” – PLAUTUS

“Without a general an army is lost.” – GREEK PROVERB

HOT ON TV

Which TV shows are close to losing it? Well, continue reading to find.

I’ll begin with Grown-ish airing on Freeform. I enjoyed watching the first episode. The pilot got my attention because the show is set on a college campus. Who doesn’t smile when they reminisce about their college days? That made the show HOT ON TV.
However, the cringe-worthy acting and dull actors resulted in a below average score. I lost all of the excitement and energy for that show and would definitely throw a couple of rotten tomatoes on its path. I don’t expect the show to get a third season.

Another TV series which is quite disappointing is
Kingdom on Audience Network. Nick Jonas is the only thing that makes that show worth –a-watch; otherwise, it’s destined for the TV trash can. I feel like the producers were trying too hard to reinvent a story similar to The Sopranos (HBO) which I also didn’t like. Yea, it’s just Nick, he’s medicinal.

The Four: Battle For Stardom is a new reality TV singing competition series airing on FOX and hosted by the one and only Fergie. The promos got me excited and the first three or four episodes were bearable, however, the show is losing the energy which it initially exuded. The show’s judging panel (Meghan Trainor, DJ Khaled, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Charlie Walk) act like their ‘high’ at all times and a lot of amazing singers are unfairly getting the boot early in the game.
In contradiction to the previous sentence, I actually do like Charlie Walk. His immeasurable experience in the music business is evident throughout the show. I just wish he could tone it down a little bit, that’s all.

Fergie is a one of a kind hostess, by the way.

HOTTER:

Mom on CBS is beginning to bore most of us. The writers are clearly running out of ideas (i.e. the humor is dry) and most of the cast members have become general. Anna Faris (Christy) is still killing it on camera. She is the only actor on the show that is effectively holding the fort otherwise; I would not be surprised if news of the show's cancelation broke out in a few weeks.

The 60th Grammy Awards Ceremony aired live on CBS a few days ago. James Corden returned as host of this spectacular show and Bruno Mars went home with the night’s biggest accolade. Overall, the production was phenomenal. I liked the graphics shown on screen and the stage was perfect (smaller but effective). The Recording Academy always puts on an outstanding show so my expectations were met.

The seventh season of The Voice on ITV sucks. The British series has an exceptional production team but the rest of the show's aspects are lifeless. Skip the show if it’s recommended.

I can’t stop watching the latest season of Modern Family on ABC. The show has somehow managed to keep me glued to my small screen from the beginning to the end of each episode such that all the doubt I had about the show’s future has suddenly vanished. #Timeless

Shameless on Showtime concluded its eighth season a few days ago. I was impressed. The season was a roller-coaster ride which I never wanted to end. A number of scenes deserve high honor and I really hope the next season continues on the same streak.

Other Buzzing TV Shows: Riverdale (The CW), How To Get Away With Murder (ABC), Dynasty (The CW)

WEB TV:

Guess what I stumbled upon a few weeks ago? A show called Best.Cover.Ever. available only on YouTube, can you believe it? A high-quality show about the cover music that we are so in love with here on E.W. has finally arrived. Discovering that was like receiving manna from heaven.

The show is hosted by Ludacris (good decision) and it features top musical acts and their top-charting music. It’s a great show to binge watch on a boring weekend and I sincerely hope that they make more episodes.

THROWBACK:

The 2018 Golden Globe Awards on NBC were worth it. Seth Meyers hosted the ceremony and Oprah received a special award. It was a good show, I am glad I did not miss the event and I hope the producers continue the good work. It’s all good.

Season 13 of The Voice on NBC had an amazing finale show. A number of chart-topping musicians featured on the guest list and the finalists were the crème de la crème. It has been a while since I’ve enjoyed watching a season finale of a reality TV singing competition series so that episode was a breath of fresh air.

The popular French radio station, NRJ held its annual NRJ Music Awards in November of last year. The ceremony which aired on TF1 from the South of France has improved tremendously and is becoming an important pop culture event.
The host (Nikos Aliagas) was incredible and the lineup of performing acts and presenters was impressive and truly set the event apart from other ceremonies that I’ve watched.

The show’s producers have been using the same stage design for the last couple of years, but every time the show returns it’s as if we have it on TV for the first time. It’s a prestigious event with a little je ne sais quoi

A.I. UPDATE:

March. Don’t forget to keep checking this section of #TheRoundUp by Enzer for views, analysis, recaps (and maybe even spoilers), news and the predictions.  I predicted Nick Fradiani’s win in 2015 so place your bets wisely, LOL.
