#TheRoundUp By Enzer - No. 16

HOT ON TV

Who does not enjoy watching Bates Motel on A&E

Recognized by the Enzer’s World (E.W.) Board as the Outstanding TV Series for the second E.W. Year (2013/14), Bates Motel premiered its third season on the ninth of this month.

Are Enzer and the E.W. Board impressed?

Well, it’s too early to tell.

Let’s just discuss the first two seasons for now, shall we?

The Production: superb. The set is authentic and sets the mood (this includes The Bates Motel and The Bates’ residence), the sound and lighting is on point and makes the viewer feel present, and the picture quality is good. The show has a great production team. If nobody is going to see or recognize that, WE WILL!

How good is the writing team? It is an amazing writing team. The series always leaves the viewer’s hanging on a thread. We never know what’s next! This is good because it simply parades a writers’ high caliber. I, in particular, enjoyed the season one finale. It got me excited and restless. Bates Motel (after the season one finale) became some kind of air that I couldn’t survive without. Good job guys!

Moving on, the stars of the series namely Freddie Highmore (Norman Bates) and Vera Farmiga (Norma Bates) are doing a stellar job. Before I talk about their high standard of acting, can I use this opportunity to praise the casting directors that cast Freddie and Vera for the lead roles in this series? Well done! Those two actors are so compatible. I don’t think there are any other actors out there that are good enough, seriously.

Back to Freddie and Vera: they are the best actors on TV!

Freddie is recognized by the E.W. Board as the Outstanding Actor in a Fictional TV Series for the second E.W. Year (2013/14) and Vera is one of E.W.s’ Top Actresses.

Do they deserve recognition? Well, of course! Freddie is exceptional. He transforms into the character ‘Norman’ so well and with Vera by his side, magnificence surfaces on our screens. I’m looking forward to the third season of the series and many more (fingers crossed).

Cheers!

MUSIC SPOT

It’s Korean Pop (K-Pop) week on E.W.! If you follow E.W. on Twitter @EW_Xtra then you should’ve noticed by now that our top songs for this week were Korean! Yes, the bug that carries the K-Pop virus has bit us too! No, you and I don’t need to see doctors, we just need to dance and sing along, LOL. Our celebration of K-Pop will end soon but don’t despair; E.W. will continue sharing some of our favorite K-Pop hits, K-Pop artists’ interviews and lots more to add in to the E.W. library. Welcome home, K-Pop!

DAILY INSPIRATION

You create opportunity. You can turn crises into creative opportunities and defeats into successes and frustration into fulfilment. How is this possible? With your great invisible weapons: your good feelings about yourself, your determination to live the best life you can, and your feeling – that only you can give yourself – that you are worthwhile, deserving person. You are your most important critic. There is no opinion as vitally important to your wellbeing as the opinion you have of yourself. Are you a nurturing coach or a critic? Do you reinforce your own success or negate it?

AMERICAN IDOL ROUND-UP

Wednesday and Thursday night’s episodes: SIMPLY THE BEST!

Everything looks good this season. The new stage is stunning and the personalities fit in well with this season's theme (if there is any). However, amidst the spectacular live shows, a flaw that I just can’t ignore keeps bugging me. It’s the opening song! I just prefer the song or music used last season.

I enjoyed most of the performances. The contestants were ready and did their best – I could see the effort. Some disappointed (i.e. Sarina Joi) and others failed to woo America (I’m looking at you Adam) but it's okay. I still believe that the next best-selling artist is still staying in the IDOL House.

BEST PERFORMANCES: Quentin (Night One) and Nick (Night Two)

ENZER’S TOP 10: Tyanna; Clark; Joey; Quentin; Maddie; Adanna; Nick; Jax; Daniel and Rayvon.

Qaasim is a great performer but his singing is not as good as the other contestants'. He could score more points if he tried something new or something outside his comfort zone. The other contestants have done that already.
